Rachel Fulton Brown is Associate Professor of History at the University of Chicago where she has been teaching since 1994. She is the author of “Mary and the Art of Prayer: The Hours of the Virgin in Medieval Christian Life and Thought” (2017) and “From Judgment to Passion: Devotion to Christ and the Virgin Mary, 800-1200” (2002), both published by Columbia University Press. She teaches courses on the history of European civilization, the history of Christianity, and the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. She is also a nationally ranked veteran foil fencer and a beginning fiddler.
