Empty Spaces

Come back to me, fill these empty spaces

Allow me to remember forgotten faces

Blurred figures crowd together in my mind

Searching through them, the familiar to find

Memories clutch at the dawn of my morning

By evening disappear without any warning

Pain becomes etched upon a confused visage

Recalling passing time as a cluttered collage

Smiling happy carefree moments flash by me

An epiphany, manifesting treasured memory

Watery eyes close to blank out this tiring day

Sleep arrives to refresh, to take anxiety away

Age shall weary, frailty be my constant guest

Youth is what has been, gone but forever blest

For I love you beyond what the mind can bear

I ache for your presence, to wrap you in care

Restoration comes when the journey is done

When all these empty spaces are finally gone

A reflection on old age, dementia, loss, grief and the expectation of being restored by faith
