5 Kinds of Crates to Choose for your Dog

Do you know that a good and comfortable crate is necessary for your animal to travel safely? A crate is used when a pet or ESA letter owner is traveling with his animal and other than transportation, it is also used to keep the animal safe and out of danger. These crates come in different sizes and material and finding the right one for your dog is the next important thing.

When planning to travel with your dog, make sure that your emotional support animal letter is valid and does not need renewal. Talking about the crates, there are 5 main kinds of crates, all of which are listed and described below.

  1. Soft-Sided Dog Crates

The most famous and loved of the crates, both by the dogs and the dog owners, these crates have soft mesh type of walls that may resemble the wired crates. These are affordable, lightweight and very comfortable for the dogs. After use, you can fold these crates and store them easily.

However, since they are so soft, they are not durable and are quite hard to clean. Not a good choice if your pup likes to be messy and you do not like shopping every now and then.

  1. Metal Wired Dog Crates

Just as the name says it all, these crates are made of metal wires that are usually soft but sturdy. This type of crate ideal if your dog loves to chew or like to break out of such enclosures. These crates are made with high-quality metal that makes it strong and impossible to breakthrough.

They are well-ventilated and your pup will enjoy watching all the surrounding greenery and passing by scenes. To the downside, these crates are quire heavy and may not be suitable for traveling, especially with a big dog. Besides, since they are made of metal, they will rust with time.

  1. Wooden Dog Crates

These crates are great for the ESA dog owners that want something that is well built and on the decorative side. They blend well with other furniture of the house and many people buy them just to add to the look of their house. But these crates may not be a very good choice for your dog.

They are heavy and costlier than many other crates and are not good for dogs who like to destroy furniture. They are hard to clean and you may not be able to get rid of the smell completely.

  1. Plastic Dog Crates

Looking for something that is sturdier than a soft-sided crate and offers more privacy than the metal crate? A plastic crate is your answer. A plastic crate has a lot of advantages like they are easy to carry, offers a limited outside view, which is good for skittish dogs, easy to clean and they are approved by most of the airlines.

The cons include their not-so-attractive look, their bulky design since they can not be folded and stored away as the metal and soft-sided crates and because they are made of plastic, they will absorb the dog smell real quick and real deep.

  1. Combination Dog Crates

These crates are a combination of two or more crates that are explained here. These crates offer more features than any single kind of crate and maybe a good choice for the people who are looking for a crate that offers double advantages.

However, since these crates are hybrids, they may not be food in anything, completely. Often, they are quite heavy, overpriced and need more people to assemble it. Though they have wheels to steer them, their heavy design makes it difficult to carry around.

Crates are important and essential when you are traveling with an animal. Many airlines make it a necessity that you have your animal in a crate that could fit under your seat. Therefore, to make the journey comfortable for yourself and your animal, choose a crate that matches both of your needs.
