Funereal Britain again hears the wailing ‘bring out your dead’ but as this time it isn’t the Bubonic Plague sweeping Britain but a contagion caused by poverty that is popularly known as Toryitis.

A severely ill anorexic mother has been found dead in freezing unheated flat after her entitlement to Universal Credit was denied.

The corpse of Elaine Morrall was found in her home whilst wrapped in a coat and scarf.  Suffering from an eating disorder she died alone in her home after her benefits were cut because she was too ill to attend an Employment Support Allowance meeting.

Elaine Morrall, a mum of four children, now in care, was found dead in her glacial flat in Runcorn, Cheshire, wearing a coat and scarf earlier this month. Her forlorn attempts to prevent herself being frozen to death were futile. Ms. Morrall’s family said the 38-year-old had her benefits cut after failing to turn up for a meeting because she was in intensive care in a hospital.

In an open letter posted on Facebook, Ms. Morrall’s mother Linda blamed the Department of Work and Pensions for her daughter’s death, saying she was left unable to afford to put the heating on.

“How many people have got to die before this government realises they are killing vulnerable people. My daughter lived in Boston Avenue. She died on 2 November 2017 at home on her own.

Again, this ‘Department of Death’ is the responsibility of AMBER RUDD.

“It was so cold in her home she was wearing her coat and scarf, because she wouldn’t put her heating on until her kids came home from school. Why, because she couldn’t afford it, because she was severely depressed. She had suffered from health problems for many years and was in and out of intensive care. But, she was deemed not ill enough for her entitlement. My daughter had her benefits stopped numerous times, which in turn stopped her housing benefit.

“My dead daughter had no income at all but was expected to be able to pay full rent. They were told she was in intensive care but that was not sufficient reason for her failing to attend a universal credit interview. I went to the job centre to inform them that she couldn’t attend but her entitlements stopped again. 

The grieving mother says, “The uncaring housing was taking her to court. She was due to appear in court on Monday, but she is dead now. Is that the proof they need to show the authorities she is ill? How many people have got to die before this government realises they are killing vulnerable people? What are you and your fellow councillors going to do to protect your constituents?”

The usual platitudes poured in from faceless grey-suits: Halton MP Derek Twigg said the case was tragic and he was providing assistance. He then lied, “The family are grieving and request that they are given the privacy, time and space they need at this time.” If this was the case why did the dead girl’s mother bring the tragedy to light on Social media and discuss the circumstances the Independent newspaper?

The usual mantra was selected from the Department of Deaths’ Platitudes List placed over a clerk’s desk: A spokesperson for the Department of Works and Pensions, headed by disgraced Tory banker Amber Rudd: “Our thoughts are with Ms. Morrall’s family at this difficult time. We understand that people can’t always attend appointments, which is why we will re-arrange alternative times.

Universal credit rolls six working-age benefits into a single payment, but since the scheme was launched, hundreds of thousands of claimants have had to wait six weeks or more for an initial payment, forcing many into debt. A report published earlier this year by Southwark and Croydon councils, who were among the first in the country to roll out the new regime, found the credit system had the potential to be “catastrophic” and lead to a “spiral of debt”.
