1. Lack of commitment from parents

Parents and teachers both have significant roles to play regarding the education and training of children. But surprisingly, many parents do not even show much commitment. Perhaps, most of them believe that teachers are being paid to teach, and it’s their job to ensure that children under their care receive proper training.

But let’s face the fact; parents have the same role to play as teachers. They can even help their children even more than teachers. Teachers are humans, and in most cases, they cannot supervise or guide the large population of students in most classrooms. Coupled with the fact that children learn differently, a lot of students struggle to catch up in class which a teacher might not be aware of considering the population size of most classrooms.

Compared to the school environment, the home would be much easier to control, and students might even learn better under such conditions. But one cannot blame parents for being too busy. Of course, they need money to take care of their financial responsibilities. But if there must be changes in our educational system, then parents must start treating education as a top priority and not leave the job for teachers alone.

2. The population size of schools

Another worst problem the USA educational system is experiencing is overcrowding in schools. It is a significant problem that needs an urgent solution. There is a need for more classrooms, teachers and learning facilities in schools to meet the growing population.

The danger with overcrowded schools is that there is a high possibility for teachers in such schools to be ineffective or struggle to control the students. Most students won’t also get the attention they need, given the population size of the class.

3. Teachers are not trained to be innovative

The main focus is for students to change or be more innovative. Of course, that’s why they are in school in the first place. But what about teachers, are they suppose to remain stagnant? Teachers are supposed to be more innovative. But unfortunately, that won’t happen unless the teacher education is modified to address the demands of the K-12 classroom, as well as global demand.

There is also a need to train and assign teachers to a specific set of students. Such teachers would have the knowledge and skills to meet the demands of the students and help them attain their full potentials. The USA educational system should focus on developing teachers who can embrace tech advancements and use them innovatively to help students learn more effectively.

4. Inadequate funding of schools

With the state of the US economy, one might think that education would be getting the lion’s share of the budget. Before the recession, schools were adequately funded. But now, many things have changed. School funding has reduced drastically, which is a surprise given that the US economy has improved a bit. At least, the economy is a bit stable for now, so funding for public schools should improve.

However, without adequate funding of public schools, high school graduation rate which is of great concern to the government, might not improve massively.

5. The use of educational technology

Technology has contributed massively to education, and those that developed the educational gadgets and tools available today deserve some accolades for their contributions. But it is not the availability of tech gadgets and tools that is the primary concern but their use.

Parents are now quick to download the latest educational games for their kids without minding the effect it would have on them. Also, with increased screen-time, most students may find it hard to concentrate in class, which can make it more challenging for teachers to do their jobs.
