Went Fishing This Weekend

My wife’s sorority sisters married some really good guys.  We were all at a wedding last fall and started talking fishing.  We went fishing for steelhead on the Dowagiac River in Michigan.  Three weeks ago, there was a devastating flood on this river. It took out a lot of soil from the banks and totally mauled a trailer park downstream.  We saw all the smashed decks and grills.  You could still feel the current.  The river looked placid but underneath the surface it was rolling.

Recently, I hurt my left knee and so it’s pretty hard to walk on land.  It was almost impossible in the water.  A couple of times it was impossible.

It was relatively cold.  The steelhead only come in during the early spring and late fall.  You can’t catch much on this river when it is warm out.  It’s not well known around the country, but Wisconsin’s Driftless Region and the southeastern part of Michigan have some really great fly fishing.  The cool thing is it is really close to Chicago.  No planes or trains to get there, just an automobile.  Hope the Chicago people showing Amazon around this week for their second headquarters is letting them know how easy it is do get places and do stuff.

One of the things I like about fishing is the quiet and just being outside.

Here is the fish my friend Mike caught. It was a nice steelhead.

We ended fishing and then watched the NCAA’s. My bracket was mauled.
