Tomorrow Isn’t Promised
Must be the age I am (56). A lot of people I know are either dying, or having health problems. The ones that are dying are either getting an incurable cancer, like pancreatic cancer, or they are having what would be called a “grabber”. A heart attack. It seems as if you have a heart attack between the ages of 49-60, it’s fatal.
I remember reading the book Tuesdays With Morrie back when it came out. It seemed so foreign to me. I suppose I should re-read it now.
Yesterday I spoke with another long time friend who needs a kidney transplant and has another issue. It is a cold slap in the face. He was in fantastic health, better than mine. One day he was fine, the next he was hours from dying. He will get his kidney soon I hope and survive. I have a nice bottle of wine waiting to share with him. Of course, it truly wasn’t his fault. It was the fault of Camp Lejeune. Bastards.
I heard about another acquaintance who has ALS. Came on suddenly. It’s working it’s “magic” fast. It’s a shame. He is the type that will make lemonade out of the lemon handed him but it sure gives you pause. We aren’t guaranteed life on earth. You never know what will happen. We are only guaranteed our inalienable rights while we are here. Of course, the government you live under might not guarantee those rights but at least they exist. You never know what will happen.
You just hope that science moves faster and if there are any government policy “brakes” on science that are unnecessary, they get pulled off.
It does make you wonder if you are doing enough today. I wrote a post about if you quit, you die the other day. I guess the flip side of that is if you don’t enjoy what you are doing, do something you enjoy doing. You might not get the chance tomorrow.
There is a lot of stuff I have been putting off for another day. That should probably change. You do only live once. You cannot take it with you and you might as well use it to bring yourself, your family, your friends and anyone else you want joy before the Democratic Socialists get it. (this is sort of a joke) The important thing is while you are living and able, you get to choose. When you aren’t able, or aren’t living you don’t. You also don’t get to experience the joy part.
Oh, and I clear my browser every night before bed now. (this is a joke)
