One Stop Systems shares jump after computing company unveils Gen 4 backplane

Shares of One Stop Systems Inc (NASDAQ:OSS) soared Thursday after the computing company unveiled the first PCIe Gen 4 backplane – the OSS 5 Slot Gen 4 Backplane – at this week’s GPU Technology Conference in San Jose, California.

A backplane is an electronic circuit board that acts as a connection tool as it contains circuitry and sockets that other electronic devices on other circuit boards and cards can be plugged into.

One Stop’s Gen 4 backplane greatly speeds up performance over the previous Gen 3 backplane as it doubles the interconnect bandwidth. It also alleviates system bottlenecks between CPU (central processing unit) complexes, the electronic circuitry that carry out the instructions of a computer program, and accelerators, storage and IO (input/output) devices, hardware used to communicate with computers.

In response, investors sent One Stop Systems shares climbing 11.6% to $2.93 in morning trade Thursday.

“Our customers in the high-performance computing, military, media and entertainment markets can now take advantage of the additional bandwidth available in Gen 4-equipped servers, and be ready when Gen 4 IO cards hit the market,” said Steve Cooper, CEO of One Stop Systems, in a statement.

“OSS PCIe backplanes form the core of our high-performance computing products, and our new Gen 4 backplane offers double the IO performance,” Cooper added.

Headquartered in San Jose, California, One Stop Systems, which listed on the Nasdaq last year, makes high-end storage systems to store data as well as GPU computing systems that can analyze data.

The company manufactures customized servers, compute accelerators, flash storage arrays, expansion systems and storage software and its products are used for deep learning, artificial intelligence, defense and finance.
