ICC International Cannabis Corp recruits long-time cannabis exec David Shpilt as CEO

ICC International Cannabis Corp (CSE:WRLD.U) (OTCMKTS:WLDCF) announced Monday that David Shpilt will come on board as its new CEO.

A pioneer in the cannabis sector, Shpilt was picked to replace outgoing CEO Eugene Beukman, who will remain a director of ICC, after an extensive recruitment process. And his appointment comes as ICC International Cannabis is poised to expand its business internationally, after moving to acquire 49.9% of the international assets and license portfolio of Wayland Group.

Looking ahead, ICC International Cannabis plans to leverage its portfolio of brands as well as its distribution network of over 39,000 European pharmacies to maximize its margins and profitability. It will market and sell CBD products derived from its Swiss, German, Serbian and Croatian industrial hemp inventories as well as reap the benefits of its 2019 cannabis production from its key licenses in the European Union.

Throughout his career Shpilt has taken the lead in the cannabis space, having founded over 12 patient clinics across Canada and created genetic libraries of cannabis strains.

On the list of Shpilt’s career highlights is that he has helped to build several contract manufacturing and white-label facilities in Canada, the US and Europe that offer top-line THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol) products derived from both cannabis and industrial hemp. He has also successfully orchestrated applications for multiple commercial cannabis licenses under Health Canada’s federal framework for licensed production and developed premium targeted brands for licensed producers, including two cannabis product lines developed to help Canadian military veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and chronic pain.

“David’s hands-on abilities operationally, his knowledge of all spheres of the cannabis space, his clear ability to execute and his entrepreneurial nature, along with a demonstrated capacity to lead and delegate in dynamic and growing organizations represent the skill-sets that ICC needs as it moves towards production and sales,” said Eugene Beukman, ICC’s outgoing CEO, in a statement.

For his part, Shpilt also spoke bullishly about his future at ICC International Cannabis.

“Together with International Cannabis, I look forward to the continued enhancement of excellence in cannabis, lifestyle, healthcare and design,” he said in a statement.

Vancouver-based ICC is developing cultivation platforms for cultivation, extraction, formulation and distribution for cannabis and has operating assets in the UK, Europe, Australia, South America and Africa.
