Security Devices makes first US deliveries of its non-lethal personal security device Byrna HD

Security Devices International Inc (CSE:SDZ)(OTCMKTS:SDEV) announced Wednesday the first US deliveries of its non-lethal personal security device Byrna HD.

The company also said it has produced 1,000 Byrna HD devices, shipped 500 of the devices to the US and expects third-quarter sales to exceed $750,000. South Africa is the company’s other market. 

The Byrna is a handgun-like device that dispenses chemical irritants. The small, lightweight .68 caliber device is equipped with a five-round magazine capable of accurately hitting a target at up to 60 feet — without causing serious injury. It’s chemical payload is designed to burn an assailant’s eyes and respiratory system.

The Byrna HD is not a “firearm” under federal law and does not require a federal gun license. State laws and local ordinances may regulate its possession, use, and carry in certain localities.

Security Devices said production in South Africa has been moved to a new facility, Roboro Industries (PTY) LTD, a company experienced in both the manufacturing and the production of non-lethal weapons.

“We believe that the partnership with Roboro will allow SDI to achieve the quality levels and production numbers needed to both quickly fill our back orders and meet anticipated demand for the Byrna HD,” said CEO Bryan Ganz.

The Wakefield, Massachusetts-based company said total production for the 3Q, which ends August 31, is slated to be about 3,000 units: 700 units planned for June, 1,000 units for July, and 1,300 units for August.

The company also said its already receiving re-orders of the practice rounds and CO2 cartridges.
