Fireworks As Democratic Senator Dick Durbin Demands That Brett Kavanaugh Withdraw His Name From Supreme Court Consideration

“I intend no ill will to Dr. Ford and her family,” Kavanaugh said, describing how his wife, Ashley Estes Kavanaugh, and his two daughters had coped with the news of the allegations. “Liza, all of 10 years old, said to Ashley, ‘We should pray for the woman,’” he said. “That’s a lot of wisdom from a 10-year-old.”

Right off the bat, the Democrats came out swinging with Senator Dick Durbin demanding that Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh immediately withdraw his name from consideration until the FBI can conduct an investigation. Senator Lindsey Graham then responded with a fiery and at times a spectacular rebuke of Durbin’s comments.

FROM CNN: Sen. Dick Durbin, a Democrat from Illinois, urged Brett Kavanaugh to ask White House Counsel Don McGahn to ask for an FBI investigation into the sexual assault allegations against him. That’s when Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley jumped in.

“Stop the clock,” Grassley said. This committee is running this hearing, not the White House, not Don McGahn, not even you as a nominee.” Grassley then said the Senate would not suspend the confirmation process for Kavanaugh. READ MORE

Any sense of fairness and consideration that the Democrats afforded Dr. Ford’s appearance, and I am glad they did, was then resolutely denied to Brett Kavanaugh. Watching these proceedings now happening live show very quickly that it is not so much about allegations of sexual assault and everything to do with stopping Kavanaugh at all costs from becoming the swing vote on the United States Supreme Court.

One of the most touching moments occured when Brett Kavanaugh in his opening remarks said that his 10-year old daughter last night asked if they could all pray for her dad’s accuser.

FROM BUSINESS INSIDER: Brett Kavanaugh, the Supreme Court nominee, choked up during his testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday as he delivered a fiery defense against allegations of sexual misconduct.

His voice broke as he described how his 10-year-old daughter had suggested praying for Christine Blasey Ford, who has alleged that Kavanaugh once groped her and attempted to rape her while they were teenagers in the 1980s.

Ultimately what is on trial here is the American system of justice and fairness, and if we still as a nation believe that people are innocent until proven guilty. All Americans should be afraid of the prospect of mob rule and mob justice.

What makes this country different and special is our Constitution and Declaration of Independence, and if they are replaced with pitchforks and torches we may well never recover from that.
