CoQ10 can help to stop nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, study reveals

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

(NaturalHealth365) CoQ10 is a powerful antioxidant that the body produces naturally.  The problem is that modern (stressful) lifestyles deplete this vital substance and the consequences are not good – especially as it relates to fatty liver disease.

But, let’s be clear: there’s plenty of research to suggest that CoQ10 is vital to those looking to prevent heart problems, cancer and, yes, fatty liver disease.  For example, research out of the Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences reveals that CoQ10 can help to reverse the effects of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).

And, just in case you’re new to this kind of information, NAFLD differs from liver damage related to heavy alcohol consumption.  It is characterized by fat accumulation in the liver, inflammation, liver enlargement and elevated serum liver enzyme levels.

How big a problem is this?  NAFLD affects an alarming 30 percent of adult Americans, or around 100 million people and many have no idea it’s happening to them.

Study reveals how CoQ10 helps people concerned about fatty liver disease

The study, published in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition, was a double-blind randomized trial of people who had been diagnosed with the disease. The trial included 41 participants all showing signs of mild to moderate NAFLD.

Twenty of the subjects took 100 milligrams of CoQ10 once per day for 12 weeks; the rest took a placebo.

Markers related to inflammation, liver enzymes, tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-a), serum high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (CRP) and cellular liver fat were measured before the treatment period as well as right afterward.

Those receiving the CoQ10 supplement showed better markers overall after the study period was completed as compared with the placebo group. The researchers concluded that CoQ10 supplementation is useful against pathological conditions like liver diseases, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, hypertension and insulin resistance.

The goal is clear: Lowering inflammatory markers will help to reduce your risk of disease

At this time, Western medicine has no really effective way to deal with NAFLD.  That’s why we see a growing interest in ‘integrative medicine’ – which helps people to make good changes to their diet and lifestyle.

In other words, we all know that nutrition matters.  In many cases, it just means we need the right healthcare provider to help guide us toward better health.  This often requires a knowledge about nutrition – that we can’t expect from conventionally-trained doctors.

Anyone dealing with NAFLD will almost always have inflammatory markers that must come down.  This is where a good change in the diet and supplementation routine can help.

After taking CoQ10, the study results are quite revealing

In just 12 weeks on CoQ10, four patients in the study group improved so much that they were determined to be ‘normal’ in terms of liver function.   The researchers were particularly impressed by the supplement’s effects against inflammation in the study subjects.

A number of chronic conditions have inflammation as a precursor, including cancer.  So, an intelligent strategy must always focus on reducing inflammation in the body – which will naturally reduce your risk of disease.

Western medicine wants us to believe in pharmaceutical interventions for our health struggles.  But, in the long run, its usually best to uncover the true cause of disease and address the issue as soon as possible.

Know where you’re at and make healthy lifestyle decisions

In addition to taking CoQ10, there are a number of lifestyle choices that can help you avoid fatty liver disease.  Eating a healthy diet rich in organic fruits and vegetables, maintaining a healthy weight, getting regular exercise and limiting alcohol consumption can all make a huge difference.

How do you know if you have fatty liver disease or not?  A ‘liver function test’ is a good place to start and, obviously, we suggest working with a qualified physician – who appreciates the value of good nutrition and lifestyle modifications.

Liver health is so important for our overall well-being.  Don’t wait until you have a problem – take action and enjoy the benefits of a healthier lifestyle today.
