Drug-Free World Atlanta Launches Effort to Create the Safest Super Bowl in History

Drug abuse is a growing epidemic in the city of Atlanta, according to a report from USA Mobile Drug Testing. In 2012, the city ranked sixth in Forbes’ list of the most dangerous cities in the country. What makes the city more prone to drugs is the fact that it is a tourist destination and an education center, as it is the seventh most visited city in the US and has over 30 universities and colleges.

So when it was announced that the Super Bowl would be in Atlanta in 2019, Drug-Free World decided this year would be the safest in history.

The Foundation for a Drug-Free World, Atlanta Chapter, was out in full force during MLK weekend participating in the annual parade in Sweet Auburn, where volunteers distributed over 3,400 Truth About Drugs booklets.

“We’re spreading these messages now to get people on the right path so we can have a drug-free, crime-free Super Bowl weekend,” says Mark Webb, local coordinator for Drug-Free World Atlanta.

The Truth About Drugs materials are practical tools to educate young people about substance abuse. The core of the Foundation’s education program consists of the feature-length documentary, The Truth About Drugs: Real People—Real Stories. The documentary is supplemented by fourteen drug information booklets and award-winning public service announcements. More than 118 million copies of the booklets have been distributed in over 197 countries.

The Foundation for a Drug-Free World is a secular nonprofit corporation that empowers youth and adults with factual information about drugs so they can make informed decisions to live drug-free.
