Reporter murdered in Playa Del Carmen; second in a month in Q. Roo

CANCUN, Q. Roo (apro). – The journalist Rubén Pat, specializing in nota roja reporting, and owner of the website Semanario Playa News, was murdered this morning by several bullet shots, in the old town of Playa del Carmen.

According to the first reports, at 5:48 today, the Municipal Preventive Police received the report of a man shot on Juarez Avenue, between Avenida 20 and Avenida 25, in the center of Playa del Carmen.

The man was identified as Rubén Pat, a local journalist, apparently while at the bar “Arre”, located on Juarez Avenue. He was murdered outside the establishment.

Through a statement, the municipality of Solidaridad (Playa del Carmen), reported that “the Municipal Police has made the corresponding protocols for the intervention of the staff of the Attorney General of the State (PGE), with the purpose of carrying out the relevant investigations to reach the final conclusions.

“The respective protocols were also activated when requesting the inspection of motorized units and vehicles inside the city, as well as in the police checkpoints of the north and south of the municipality,” it added.

Rubén Pat Cahuich, was originally from Felipe Carrillo Puerto, and developed his career in Playa del Carmen, where he contributed on various media until he created the page “Semanario Playa News,” which became a nota roja reference in this Mayan Riviera city.

The journalist gained international notoriety by giving the first scoop on the attack of the beach club “Blue Parrot”, on the dawn of January 15, 2017.

Just this June 29, journalist José Guadalupe Chan Dzib was murdered inside “La Baticueva” bar, in the city of Felipe Carrillo Puerto, a municipality of the same name, located in the Mayan municipality of Felipe Carrillo Puerto, in the downtown area of the state.

Chan Dzib was a contributor to “Playa News” and “El Tábano” in the Maya area of the entity.

So far, the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) has not given reports of its investigations into the killing of Chan Dzib.
