Laredo: U.S. Border Patrol supervisor suspect in serial murders confesses

Authorities believe Ortiz is behind the murder of four women in a nearly two-week span. a fifth woman escaped from him on Friday

The first known murdered is Melissa Ramirez, whose body was discovered on September 4th. A woman described by authorities as a “second victim” was found Thursday “with head trauma injury” off state highway 255, according to a statement from Texas Rangers. She was identified as Claudine Anne Luera, 42, of Laredo, Texas.

A third body was found Saturday morning, then a fourth was found just after noon along the highway north of Laredo, no details or identification were given for the 3rdand 4th.   

On Friday, a fifth woman fought for her life when a gun was drawn on her, she managed to escaped and went to authorities.
Webb County Sheriff Martin Cuellar said at a news conference that Juan David Ortiz 35,  was booked

Saturday morning after the woman he  attempted to kidnap Friday, went to law enforcement. 

He said authorities believe Ortiz is behind the murder of four women in a nearly two-week span.


The authorities found Mr. Ortiz, who has been employed by the federal agency for 10 years, in the parking lot of a local hotel off Interstate 35. He had tried to escape.


Mr. Ortiz, who was a supervisor with the Border Patrol agency, confessed to murdering the four victims and abducting the other.



Ortiz was a 10-year veteran of the U.S. Border Patrol at the time of his arrest. He was a part of the Highway Interdiction team, whose role was to “observe vehicles traveling on IH-35 with the goal of intercepting vehicles engaged in narcotics trafficking, human trafficking, etc


Ortiz was detained at about 2:30 a.m. after the body of the third victim was found in Webb County, in southern Texas near the border with Mexico. Mr. Chapa said the body of a fourth victim was discovered on Saturday afternoon after the authorities had interviewed Ortiz.
