Judge denies request for trial delay, Emma is a no show for today's court hearing

Emma Coronel Aispuro was a no show in the Brooklyn New York courtroom today for the scheduled Status Conference. It was Coronel’s first court absence in the 21 months her husband has been imprisoned in the U.S.

With just three and a half weeks until the beginning of the trial in the case against Joaquín Archivaldo Guzmán Loera, alias “El Chapo”, Judge Brian Cogan rejected again another request by the defense for a delay in the start of trial. Defense attorney Jeffrey Lichtman cited the large number of documents yet to be analyzed.

On November 5^ththe jury selection process will begin for 12 jury members and alternates.

Extraordinary protection measures have been implemented for the still unidentified cooperative witnesses.

Guzmán was extradited to the United States on January 19, 2017.
