Rudd replied to the tweet saying: ‘A great honour. Look forward to getting stuck in.’

No doubt, the banker’s background will make her most suitable to be in charge of one of the most powerful positions in government. The Works and Pensions Secretary’s role is to manage and influence the incomes of Britons as they are taxed and toil from womb to tomb.

Rudd, who voted to remain in the EU in 2016, stepped down as home secretary in April over her handling of the Windrush generation scandal. She had then faced growing pressure to resign amid claims she misled parliament over targets for removing illegal migrants. The black smudge on Rudd’s CV obviously hasn’t been a hindrance to promotion; in fact, it seems to have helped her career. What next, Prime Minister Amber Rudd.
