Cd Hidalgo, Coahuila: SEMAR Patrol Attacked by Armed Criminals

According to local media, authorities of the Coahuila government report a balance of one Marine dead and two civilians killed.

This Thursday morning there was a confrontation on federal highway number 2 Piedras Negras- Nuevo Laredo , between elements of the Secretariat of the Navy and armed men, which left at least three people dead; one on the side of the armed forces and two on the side of the criminal group.

The facts were recorded the morning of this Thursday in the vicinity of the town of Hidalgo, Coahuila, almost on the border with the State of Nuevo León, near the border area with the Rio Grande.

Although the facts were recorded around six o’clock in the morning of this Thursday, it was around 10:30 am that federal highway number 2 was closed to traffic, in the vicinity of the municipality of Hidalgo, due to the research work carried out by the staff of the General State Prosecutor’s Office (FGE).

As a result of this situation, long lines have been created in both directions of the road, since the aforementioned road is one of the busiest routes for those who travel from the North region of Coahuila to Nuevo León or Tamaulipas and vice versa.

In a message from his official Twitter account, the Secretariat of the Navy-Navy of Mexico (Semar) reported that naval personnel carrying out ground patrols in Ciudad Hidalgo , Coahuila, were assaulted with firearms by alleged members of organized crime.

Early on, elements of the armed forces detached from Hidalgo and Guerrero bases of operations moved to the point of confrontation in order to support the search operations of members of organized crime that are trying to infiltrate the territory of Coahuila .

In the limits of Coahuila and Nuevo León , on at least four occasions elements of Fuerza Coahuila have been attacked with heavy weapons by armed civilians who have tried to cross into the Hidalgo area, however, they have been confronted by the fast reaction of the Authority group of the state of Coahuila.

For its part, the mayor of Piedras Negras, Sonia Villarreal Pérez , said that the confrontation this morning is the result of the fact that in Coahuila both the armed forces and the state corporations are aware that no member of criminal groups tries to settle in Coahuila .

“This is the result of working against crime; Everyone from their field works for security, in a coordinated way, because it is the way that things do not get out of control, ” said the mayor.

She stressed that the elements of the Navy and the Secretary of National Defense , patrol near gaps and roads in the fight against crime, with results like this morning.
