Lawyers for Joaquín “El Chapo ” Guzmán protested outside the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) to demand that the process of extradition of the drug trafficker to the United States be reestablished.

The dissenters asserted that from the beginning they opposed this one because there were three amparos, in progress on the day of extradition.

“Since that time we are now in the Supreme Court, we hope we have a favorable ruling for El Chapo to be returned to Mexico because it was illegally taken,” said José Luis González Meza, the drug trafficker’s advocate, outside the Chancellery headquarters .

In a letter that was delivered to the agency, the defense of the Chapo asked the Government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador to cancel the authorization granted by the Administration of Enrique Peña Nieto, to extradite and prosecute the capo in the Federal Court of the Eastern District, in New York.

“We request that our client Joaquín Archivaldo Guzmán Loera be granted respect for the specialty rule, since the previous administration left him in a state of defenselessness, violating the human rights of a fellow citizen and dismissing the extradition treaty of which Mexico and The United States of America has valid “, states the letter addressed to the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Marcelo Ebrard.

In the letter it says that “El Chapo ” was left unprotected “before the arbitrariness of Luis Videgaray, Chancellor of the last federal administration.

“My client is being subjected to a prosecution that derives from unlawful acts because his surrender to the United States of America is preceded by serious violation of human rights to the detriment of Joaquín Guzmán Loera,”he says.
