Inhabitants of Guanajuato set fire to cars, to stop an operation to capture ‘El Marro’, alleged leader of a huachicolero.
Santa Rosa de Lima.- Residents of the community of Santa Rosa de Lima, Guanajuato, tried to stop a joint operation of federal and state troops, burning vehicles and blocking roads, for the second consecutive day.
The inhabitants who also caused disrujptions, were paid by the so-called “huachicoleros”, a cartel specialized in the theft of hydrocarbons; but the security forces managed to take control of the situation.
The operation deployed by the federal government aims to capture ” El Marro ” alleged Huachicolero leader of the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel, who is apparently protected by the people, according to national media.
State prosecutor Carlos Zamarripa said that the operation that took place on Monday at dawn resulted in no injuries and some detainees, who were not specified as the operation is still ongoing.
In addition to the confiscation of weapons, drugs, luxury vehicles and fuel tanks, the authorities freed six kidnapped people who suffered abuse, including a policeman.
There were also payroll envelopes that contained money and were identified with the word “collection” and the seal of the criminal organization in which the order is read: “When they are notified, relatives must go out to demonstrate when required.”
President Andrés Manuel López Obrador regretted that criminals still have the support of citizens and insisted that if they need support, they turn to the Government.
“Yes you need work, because there are no job opportunities (…) count on us, we will offer that,” said the president.
