The Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) dismissed a case promoted by the [Mexican] defense of capo Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán , where which they sought to compel the federal government to request the repatriation of the leader of the Sinaloa cartel , imprisoned in the U.S.

In demand for guarantees, the defense of El Chapo again argued that his client was extradited to the United States and delivered to the District Court of New York unlawfully.

In February, the First Chamber of the Court had already dismissed two claims. In these appeals, the lawyers of the capo claimed that the Mexican government surrendered El Chapo to the New York Court, when they did not request surrender.

On January 19, 2017, one day before the beginning of the Donald Trump era as president of the United States, El Chapo was extradited.

At the Ciudad Juárez International Airport, El Chapo boarded an airplane of the Mexican Air Force that moved him to New York , where he arrived around 9:00 pm and where he was received by DEA agents.

The then Attorney General of the Republic handed over the capo because the Fifth Collegiate Court in Criminal Matters of Mexico City confirmed the decision of a federal judge who refused to grant protection against extradition.
