Two Mayors killed, one in Veracruz and one in Michoacan. 100 mayors have been killed in Mexico since 2006. Veracruz mayor offered 30,000 pesos not to take office.
Veracruz:
The mayor of Mixtla de Altamirano,Maricela Vallejo Orea, was murdered on Wednesday along with her husband and her driver, reports the authorities of the Mexican state ofVeracruz .
Vallejo, of the ruling National Regeneration Movement (Morena), her husband and her driver were shot dead around 9:00 p.m. (02:00 GMT) on the Zongolica-Orizaba highway in the Sierra de Zongolica.
The mayor and her companions traveled in a van that was intercepted by the occupants of another vehicle that repeatedly shot them, explained the authorities.
All three died at the scene, where federal, state and municipal authorities have deployed a strong security operation.
Last January, Vallejo was one of the main speakers during the presentation of the comprehensive Zero Tolerance to Violence against Women and Girls strategy in the Mexican state of Veracruz.
In that speech, on behalf of the municipal authorities, she proposed the creation of the Directorate of Prevention and Attention to Violence against Women in each municipality, where specialists can deal with each case.
During the 2017 electoral process in that municipality there were two deaths and three wounded in confrontations between supporters of Morena and the PRI.
In December of that same year, the mayor had denounced death threats against her and even revealed that she had been offered an offer to give him 300,000 pesos (about 15,789 dollars) so that she would not take office.
Michoacan:
On Tuesday, mayor, David Eduardo Otlica Avilés, of the municipality of Nahuatzen, in the state of Michoacán (west), was assassinated. The politician was kidnapped in the morning and in the afternoon he was found dead.
More than a hundred mayors have been killed in Mexico since 2006 in the midst of violence linked to organized crime , according to data from the National Association of Mayors.
