Gro: Autodefensas Detain Marines, Block Roads

CHILPANCINGO, Gro.- Members of the Union of Peoples and Organizations of the State of Guerrero (UPOEG), detained soldiers of the Navy in the municipality of Tecpan de Galeana, located in the region of the Costa Grande.

Armed civilians also blocked the Acapulco-Zihuatanejo highway, near the town of Santa Rosa de Lima, to demand the release of a member of their organization who was previously detained by the military.

The spokesperson for the autodefense group, Víctor Espino Cortés, informed that at 8 o’clock in the morning, marines from the naval sector of Zihuataneja detained a member of the UPOEG when he was in an orchard in the town of Coyuquilla Norte, municipality of Petatlán.

Espino Cortés said that his partner has not been put at the disposal of any authority and they do not know his whereabouts. Therefore, they decided to carry out the road blockade and to retain the sailors who were transporting the truck of the aforementioned armed civilian.

The members of the organization warned that they will not release the marines until they release their comrade.No authority has commented on the incident.
