Ex-Autodefense Leader who Served with Dr Mireles Gunned Down in Michoacán

On Monday night, armed men attacked Eraclio “M”, one of the leaders of the extinct self-defense groups in the state of Michoacán , was killed by bullets while dining in the municipality of Peribán.

Reports indicate that Eraclio “M”, who was nicknamed “El Cochiloco” , was dining with his family in the taqueria called “El Viejón”, located in Colonia Jardín , in the municipal capital of Peribán , when armed individuals arrived at on a motorcycle and they fired several shots at him.

The ex – leader of the armed groups was known in the region as of 2013, when he led the groups of civilians who took up arms against the cartel of the Knights Templar, in the municipalities of Peribán and Los Reyes.

“El Cochiloco” also distinguished himself by being a character close to the ex-leader of the Michoacán auto-defenses, Dr. José Manuel Mireles Valverde.

Eraclio “M” died on the spot before receiving first aid , while his attackers managed to flee. The now deceased was between 35 and 40 years old and was a member of the community known to have been part of the civil resistance of the Michoacán self-defense groups.

“El Cochiloco” was a resident of this city, and was part of the movement that in 2013 developed in this town with armed people, who integrated the so-called self-defense groups, which arose supposedly to resist the abuses of organized crime, which had the area under their control and the government authorities co-opted.

The now deceased belonged to the family of the Carranza, who also belonged to that group and even came out in the movie Tierra de Carteles , which staged the historical events when the self-defense groups finally took Los Reyes and other municipalities in the region.
