Out of fear, family of activist killed in Michoacán leaves their home

Michoacán - After the murder of the Michoacan activist, Zenaida Pulido Lombera, her relatives have left their home, they now live in fear and are asking authorities for security.

Last Friday after the 42-year-old activist was shot to death in Pichilinguillo, her brother told Sin Embargo that the family is no longer in the community belonging to the municipality of Aquila, Michoacán.

We are all very hurt, and we ask all kinds of questions. I would like [the authorities] to give us a little support and give the families some protection that need it, because the truth is that you feel helpless when you see that they do nothing, ”Zenaida’s family member shared.

She had gone to file a complaint after being threatened in the town where she lived, and when she was returning it was the attack with which she lost her life.

The murder was early Friday, around 2 o’clock. The body was picked up by relatives around 8 in the morning, as the authorities did not arrive at the scene.

Zenaida was part of the Collective Where are the Disappeared? Since 2013, she was looking for her husband, who disappeared 17 years ago.

The activist had 3 children from the coast of Michoacán and, according to close friends, she was a good woman, who sought the well-being of her family and her surroundings.

For alleged threats of people wanting to take away her land, Zenaida went to file the complaint, after which she would not arrive alive in her community.
