Dead Humpback whale towed to sea off Burnie, Tasmania, Australia

Tasmania’s Parks and Wildlife service staff have dragged a dead humpback whale out to sea off Burnie in the state’s north-west.
The 10.5 metre whale was found on West Beach about 5:30am.
Photo: Authorities say the whale has been dead for some days and has been fed on by sharks.
A boat was used to tow the whale off the beach.
Barry Davies from the Parks and Wildlife service says staff took samples from the whale to test for toxins.
“It’s just a beaching, it has been dead for some days. The sharks have already had a bit of a feed on it, for how many days I don’t know.”
“So it is just a beaching, it has come in on the tide.
“Someone reported seeing something floating yesterday afternoon about a kilometre off the beach a bit further west, so we’re assuming that’s what it is.
It is the second whale found beached or stranded in as many days.
