The anti-semitic fringe of the American Right

This week, I had a brief run-in with an anti-Semite on one of my site’s forums. He posted an attack on Ron Paul. It was clear from his post that his real complaint about Dr. Paul is that he has not publicly attacked Jews as part of a special-interest group.

I canceled his subscription immediately and refunded his money.

The critic said that Dr. Paul has not attacked “Zion supremacists.” The words “Zion supremacists” is a code phrase for Jews.

In early 2011, when the Republicans took control of the House, Ron Paul tried to get an amendment added to the spending budget ending $6 billion in aid to Israel, Jordan, Egypt, and Pakistan. Rand Paul introduced the same amendment in the Senate. The attempt failed, of course.

In 2007, when he was running for the Republican nomination for President, he was interviewed on “Meet the Candidates.”

Q: Would you cut off all foreign aid to Israel?

A: Absolutely.

What prompted the former site member’s outburst? I posted this brief clip of an interview with Dr. Paul. The interviewer challenged him to make a statement on donations to his campaign from white supremacists. So, he did. I think this caught her off guard.

To which the ex-site member responded:

“Good old Ron. When pressed, gently, he obediently stated he didn’t want the support of “white supremacists”.

“But what’s a white supremacist? Well that depends on who gets to define whom. Who/whom, as Stalin and his murderous henchmen liked to say.

“Did Ron ever declare a similar distaste for black supremacists? Zion supremacists? Cino supremacists? Latino supremacists? Did he denounce the oft-stated aims, visions and exclusivity of their racially and ethnically focused organizations – several of which receive gov’t. protection and largess?

“Good old Ron. He smelled the glove, then licked the boot. Grudgingly, but lick it he did. Sit, Ron. Heel, Ron. Good boy, Ron.”

One minute after I read that, he was a former subscriber.

This man had concealed his racial hate for ten years on my site. But finally, he could hold back no longer. That 30-second video flushed him into the open.

He was not the first anti-Semite to attack Dr. Paul. I wrote about another such attack on him in 2008. You can read my article here. Incredibly, just two days before I posted this, the anti-Semite who finally went public yesterday joined this site.

These people spend their lives in the cultural shadows. Then, without warning, they reveal what they really believe. The good news is this: they have little influence before they go public, and they have zero influence after.

I must admit, however, that I had never heard of Cino supremacists before. I looked up Cino on Wikipedia. I learned this: “Cino is a commune in the province of Sondrio in Italy, and it has a population of about 400 inhabitants, with an area of 5 square kilometres (1.9 sq mi), the density is 67 hab/km².” If some of them are supremacists, word has not gotten out.

THEY SAY “ZIONISTS” WHEN THEY MEAN “JEWS”

I learned over 50 years ago that anti-Semites are scared to death of publicly saying in public what they really believe. So, they use a code word to cover their tracks, but also to identify themselves to fellow-believers: “Zionists.” It means “Jews.” To outsiders, they can claim innocence. “What? Me, an anti-Semite? Perish the thought.” But to other members of their rag-tag brotherhood, it conveys this message: “We all know what I mean.”

There are of course anti-Zionists who are not anti-Semitic. Some of them are Jews. Some are Orthodox Jews who believe that biblical Israel will not be re-established until the Messiah comes. So, they do not accept the equation of Israel with the modern State of Israel. On the movie screen, a good example of this outlook – maybe the best – is the Hasidic rabbi in The Chosen (1981) who speaks contemptuously in 1948 of “Ben-Gurion and his henchmen.” He was an anti-Zionist.

But the ex-site member slipped up. He made it clear that he was talking about a race, not a political special-interest group.

He let his guard down. His bile spewed out. He was not talking about a political defense against a misuse of government money to benefit a special-interest group. That was what Ron Paul always talked about in Congress. No, they have race and ethnicity in mind.

This is white supremacy, and it is a curse of the political Right. It has been for a century.

ANTI-SEMITES ON THE LEFT

The Left has had its share of anti-Semites. If the Left did not give him a free ride, Karl Marx would be notorious. In his tirade, On the Jewish Question (1844), he waxed eloquent.

Let us not look for the secret of the Jew in his religion, but let us look for the secret of his religion in the real Jew.

What is the secular basis of Judaism? Practical need, self-interest. What is the worldly religion of the Jew? Huckstering. What is his worldly God? Money.

Very well then! Emancipation from huckstering and money, consequently from practical, real Judaism, would be the self-emancipation of our time.

An organization of society which would abolish the preconditions for huckstering, and therefore the possibility of huckstering, would make the Jew impossible. His religious consciousness would be dissipated like a thin haze in the real, vital air of society. On the other hand, if the Jew recognizes that this practical nature of his is futile and works to abolish it, he extricates himself from his previous development and works for human emancipation as such and turns against the supreme practical expression of human self-estrangement.

We recognize in Judaism, therefore, a general anti-social element of the present time, an element which through historical development – to which in this harmful respect the Jews have zealously contributed – has been brought to its present high level, at which it must necessarily begin to disintegrate.

In the final analysis, the emancipation of the Jews is the emancipation of mankind from Judaism.

Can you imagine some untenured professor going into print with something like this? He would be removed from the classroom within 24 hours.

To see how the Left squirmed, take a look at this attempt to evade the obvious by the Western Socialist in 1960. It responded contemptuously to a list of Marx’s anti-Semitic statements presented by Dagobert Runes. Runes had a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Vienna. He was the translator of Marx’s essay. He was a distinguished philosopher. He showed how Marx never wavered from his language. Marx referred to his intellectual adversary Ferdinand Lasalle as a “Jewish nigger.” Marx was a racist. For evidence, see the book by an ex-Communist scholar, Nathaniel Weyl, Karl Marx: Racist (1979). It had to be published by a conservative book publisher, Arlington House. No academic publisher would touch it. Used copies cost hundreds of dollars. Hitler is the most famous of the Left-wing anti-Semites, or would be if the Left had not successfully re-written history to turn him into a Right-winger. He was the head of the National Socialist German Workers Party (NSDAP) whose popular acronym was Nazi. Wikipedia misinforms us:

The National Socialist German Workers’ Party (German: Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei, abbreviated NSDAP), commonly referred to in English as the Nazi Party, was a far-right political party in Germany that was active between 1920 and 1945 and supported the ideology of Nazism.

As with all socialist political parties, the NSDAP was a far-Left party. The Left-wing historians’ trick is to identify nationalism with the Right. We can see this definitional trick in the Wikipedia’s list of supposedly Right-wing parties in Weimar Germany. It includes this: “National Bolsheviks — Led by Ernst Niekisch, they combined ultranationalism with social radicalism by claiming to espouse both ‘German’ principles and much of the programme carried out by the Bolsheviks under Lenin.” When historians equate Bolshevism with the Right, we know they are playing word games.

Then there was that other anti-Semite, Josef Djugashvili, aka Stalin. He kept his racial opinions to himself. He killed his Jewish (circumcised atheist) opponents, one by one. The Jerusalem Post lists them.

Lenin’s deputies Lev Kamenev (originally Rozenfeld) and Grigory Zinoviev (born Hirsch Apfelbaum) and his treasurer Grigori Sokolnikov (Girsh Yankelevich Brilliant) were all Jews, as were Karl Radek (Sobelsohn), co-writer of the Soviet Constitution, Maxim Litvinov (Meir Henoch Wallach-Finkelstein), foreign minister of the USSR until his removal so Stalin could pact with Hitler.

This is, of course, besides Trotsky himself, builder of the Red Army and the only Soviet who served as both foreign and defense minister.

The article failed to mention Lazar Kaganovich, the last Bolshevik leader of Lenin’s era. He was a survivor. He died five months before the collapse of the USSR. He oversaw the Ukrainian famine of 1932–33.

Stalin’s last major act was against Jewish physicians. Wikipedia summarizes:

The Doctors’ plot, “doctors’ case”, also known as the case of doctors-saboteurs or doctors-killers) was an antisemitic campaign organized by Joseph Stalin. In 1952–1953, a group of predominantly Jewish doctors from Moscow were accused of conspiring to assassinate Soviet leaders. This was later accompanied by publications of anti-Semitic character in the media, which talked about the threats of Zionism and condemned people with Jewish names. Many doctors, officials and others, both Jews and non-Jews, were promptly dismissed from their jobs and arrested. A few weeks after the death of Stalin, the new Soviet leadership stated a lack of evidence and the case was dropped. Soon after, the case was declared to have been fabricated.

This dates the origin of the accusation too late. It began in 1948. Stalin was ready in 1953 to begin construction of four huge camps to be filled with Jews. The story is presented in detail in this book: Stalin’s Last Crime: The Plot Against the Jewish Doctors 1948-1953 (2003).

Stalin died on March 5, 1953.

Even John Maynard Keynes had a streak of anti-Semitism, but at least he kept his views private. In a letter to a critic, he wrote: “I still think the race has shown itself, not merely for accidental reasons, more than normally interested in the accumulation of usury.” You can read it on PBS.

The Left must deal with their anti-Semites. I am a man of the Right.

THE FURTIVE UNDERGROUND OF THE AMERICAN RIGHT

Within the American Right wing, there is a small minority of anti-Semites. They promote the rhetoric of the Right, but their primary goal is to vilify Jews. They see Jews as part of a vast conspiracy: a circumcised brotherhood.

I was first introduced to this outlook in 1959 when I was still in high school. A man handed me a copy of The Beasts Of The Apocalypse, a cheaply produced paperback by Olivia Maria O’Grady self-published in 1959. It was a book against Jews in general and Zionism in particular. It is online on the Christian Identity Forum. (If the site or the book ever disappears, you can read it here.) The man called himself a conservative. I was 17 years old. Fortunately, I was not impressionable on this topic.

The standard far-Right critique of contemporary Jews is that they are part of the IJBC: the international Jewish bankers’ conspiracy. They trace this back to the Rothschilds. How the Baptist Rockefellers fit into this, they do not say.

One of the crucial weaknesses of those who believe that there is a central conspiracy running the world is that they attribute to this conspiracy something bordering on omniscience. R. J. Rushdoony warned against this outlook in 1965. He wrote a chapter on this issue, “The Conspiracy View of History.” He said that it is a mistake to see any group as the group that operates behind the scenes. He said that “the conspiracies at any given moment of history are many, and, the more crucial the issues, the more extensive the conspiracies.” (The Nature of the American System, 1965, p. 141.)

There is another factor to consider. “The commonly admitted conspiracies are those of the opposition” (p. 143). This blinds historians and contemporary commentators to the fact of similar activities, with similar tactics, inside the camp of the saints.

He understood that central banking and fractional reserve banking are essentially conspiracies against the public (pp. 150–52). Yet he warned against too great a concern with such matters. The fundamental issues of life are not the non-conspiratorial good guys vs. the conspiratorial bad guys. The fundamental issues are theological and moral.

How shall we evaluate these things? It is possible, and many have done it, to begin naming the international money-lenders, some known and the others unknown, who are involved at the heart of these things, but this is an exercise in futility. Knowledge is important, but it is not knowledge which saves men, and the public announcement of all the relevant names would in no wise alter the situation in any basic respect. The issue is theological (p. 153).

The anti-Semites are invariably conspiracy theorists. But they are conspiracy theorists of a special kind: theorists of a single conspiracy. Their target is racial/ethnic, not national or ideological. They see the supreme conspiracy as a covenant of blood. It is a brotherhood based on genetics, not confession of faith or economic self-interest.

Anti-Semites have adopted one of the most popular errors in man’s history: substituting a blood covenant for all others. This is their logic: “the only way to fight a covenant of blood is with a more dedicated covenant of blood.” This was Hitler’s error. He saw Germany’s mobilization of people of Aryan blood as crucial to the defeat of the Jews.

This is the meaning of white nationalism. Let’s not kid around here. That’s what it means. It is the equation of a particular racial or ethnic group with nationhood that was at the heart of Hitler’s worldview, and it is at the heart of anti-Semitism everywhere. We are told that it is only by mobilizing the nation, meaning the power of the central government, that righteous men can defeat the concealed conspiracy of the Jews. This is why these people are ready to transfer enormous power to the state if only the state will deal systematically with the blood covenant of the Jews. They are willing to add other racial groups to the list of enemies, but the Jews are the central organizers because the Jews have lots of money. Money is the alchemy of the Jews, we are told. Jews know the secret formula for money.

This is the reason why the Left in America in the form of the populist movement had a streak of anti-Semitism in it in the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century. Some of the populists were greenbackers. The dying Greenback Party joined the People’s Party in 1889. They were anti-bank. They were anti-gold standard. They wanted a rival alchemy of money: unbacked fiat money in the hands of Congress.

The man who handed me O’Grady’s book also handed me a copy of Money Made Mysterious (1959), a compilation of articles from a Right-wing, pro-Greenback magazine, The American Mercury. The magazine had been co-founded by H. L. Mencken in 1924, but in the mid-1950’s, it had become a greenbacker publication. It had been purchased in 1953 by Russell Maguire, the owner of the Thompson submachine gun company.

Maguire was a dedicated anti-Semite, but he did not reveal this in his magazine until 1959. One of his writers was George Lincoln Rockwell, who later became the head of the American Nazi Party. Maguire went public with his views in the January 1959 issue: “The Forces of Darkness.” This is as good a summary of the greenback strain of anti-Semitism as I have ever read.

DOCUMENTS are available to PROVE there is a Conspiracy for enslaving the world. Informed people no longer deny the existence of it. Sceptics of yesterday are fast awakening to this fact, yet most of them are totally blind as to the origin, cause, and true meaning of the Conspiracy. Such blindness not only makes them incapable of defending themselves and fighting the diabolical plot effectively, but it causes them unknowingly to cooperate with the plot itself. . . .

The great Conspiracy aims at establishing in Jerusalem a one world supergovernment to rule over a confused and DISINTEGRATED humanity. An enormous new building for that purpose has just been completed. National spirit, religious spirit, family life, private property and personal initiative are to be overthrown. The Rothschilds promoted the French Revolution. Their properties were not burned. It permitted them to establish the GOLD INTERNATIONALE, and to push countries into subsequent promoted wars.

Their World War I saw no victor save Communism. And during that war Russia was invaded and a revolution promoted. Since 1917, Red Russia has been the land base for the conspirators. Later, evil men in the United States financed and industrialized it.

World War II saw no victor save commUNism, which was treasonably extended over half of Europe and nearly all of Asia. Documentary proof exists that the International Zionists, during both World Wars I and II, used the diplomatic pouches and also the British and United States private cables and secret codes.

World War III, the last round, has been tentatively set for 1959–1961.

Conquering and enslaving the world through a universal super-government never was an aim or a wish of the Americans, the Irish, the English, the French, the Scots, the Germans, the Poles, the Italians, the Brazilians, or the Dutch.

Such a plan or aim can be found only in Zionist literature. THEY have openly boasted about it. And when one looks into the racial composition of the GOLD INTERNATIONALE, the Red Russian Internationale, all world monopolies including the all-important MONEY AND CREDIT MONOPOLY, as well as all the subversive organizations, and the leadership of all anti-social revolutions and the various Bolshevik Governments, the predominance of International Zionists is constant. It couldn’t just happen. It corroborates fully THEIR writings and boastings.

This was a fringe figure writing in a fringe magazine, but he had followers. One of them handed me materials promoting these views a few months later.

CONCLUSION

One final tidbit. Half a century ago, one of these conspiratorialists assured me that Jews poisoned Stalin in 1953. He had discovered their plot. They took action before it was too late. As to how these Jews got access to his food in the kitchen, he did not say.

Be aware that such views exist within the Right. When you encounter these ideas, challenge them. Their advocates try avoid exposure the way that Dracula tried to avoid crucifixes.
