Cruz Bill Expands Health Care Options For Seniors
Retirement Freedom Act spares retirees from choosing between health care and Social Security
ALEXANDRIA, Virginia (October 10, 2018) – 60-Plus Association Founder and Chairman James Martin issued the following statement Wednesday regarding the Retirement Freedom Act as introduced by Texas Senator Ted Cruz:
“Senior citizens should not be forced by the federal government to choose between the right health care and receiving their Social Security benefits. For too long, retirees have been required to enroll in Medicare Part A in order to preserve their earned Social Security. That’s not right and Senator Ted Cruz’s Retirement Freedom Act frees seniors from this requirement.
“This legislation would give seniors the freedom to choose a private health care plan that better suits their medical needs than Medicare Part A, without losing out on the Social Security benefits they’ve earned through a lifetime of paying payroll taxes. By giving seniors this option, it would also ease the financial strains on the Medicare system by reducing the number of enrollees.
“Senator Cruz is a longtime friend and ally of America’s seniors. I was honored to present him with the 60-Plus Association Award for service to seniors in Houston in 2012 and he continues to serve the needs of retirees today. The Retirement Freedom Act is just the latest demonstration of Senator Cruz’s commitment to seniors nationwide.”
