Outlook

A significant low pressure system will pass just to our south later this morning and then move off the coast tonight. Precipitation is expected to finally end Monday night as profiles finally dry out. Cool high pressure will overspread the region on Tuesday and linger into Thursday, before another low pressure system develops to our west and brings more widespread precipitation to the region by the end of the week.

Weather Hazards

A Winter Storm Warning will be in effect until noon Monday. Rain, Freezing Rain, Sleet and Snow are expected in that time frame. Be safe and stay off the roads.

…MAJOR WINTER STORM WILL CONTINUE TO IMPACT THE REGION INTO MONDAY…

.Cold high pressure along the East Coast is interacting with a moist low-pressure system moving from the Gulf of Mexico to the southeast coast from now into early Monday. Moderate to heavy precipitation will continue to fall as a mixture of snow, sleet, and freezing rain across the region, especially through this morning. While a brief lull in the precipitation is expected this afternoon into the evening, areas of light freezing rain and drizzle are expected to linger where temperatures remain locked below freezing. Snow and rain will then redevelop tonight, with additional light accumulations possible.

…WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON EST MONDAY…

* WHAT…Heavy mixed precipitation. Additional snow and sleet accumulations of up to 5 inches and ice accumulations of up to one-quarter of an inch. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.

* WHERE…The mountains of South Carolina and northeast Georgia and the southern and central mountains of North Carolina.

* WHEN…Until noon EST Monday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Power outages and tree damage are likely due to the combination of heavy wet snow and ice. Power outages may become widespread. Travel could be nearly impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute.

A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow, sleet and ice will make travel very hazardous or impossible.
