SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR DECEMBER 11th

Macon County

Franklin and Nantahala Districts will be on a two-hour delay today with an optional teacher workday. A final decision will be made at 7 am.

Highlands School will be closed. This will be an optional workday for faculty & staff.

Jackson County

All districts are closed today with an optional teacher workday.

Winter Storm of December 8th-10th

A winter storm hit Macon County from December 8th to December 10th. While the now totals in most of the county were nothing to write home about, there was significant freezing rain and icing that brought down thousands of trees on area roadways and power lines. At the peak outage time on December 9th, there were just over 8,000 Maconians without electrical service. Power restoration to all residents is expected by sometime Thursday, December 13th.

Outlook

High pressure spreads back over our region from the west and then moves off the coast on Thursday. Another significant low-pressure system will develop to our west and bring more widespread precipitation to the region by the end of the work week and into the weekend.
