Germany launches program “counseling parents who are concerned their children may be flirting with extremism”

“Flirting with extremism” meaning what? Becoming more Islamic? Like all these programs, this one too, is doomed to fail. These “deradicalization” programs won’t deal with the motive, the religious motive — the inspiration for this holy war — namely, Islam, so how could they possibly be successful?

The only way to deradicalize a Muslim is to convert him to something else. At very least, why not deal with motive, end jihad recruitment and preaching in prisons, and demand that the mosques stop preaching jihad and submit to being monitored? But Germany certainly isn’t going to do those things.

This program is foredoomed to failure, because it is almost certainly based on the false premise that jihad activity is a twisting and hijacking of Islam, and that all that young jihadis need is to be taught the true, peaceful Islam, and all will be well. It also assumes that the parents of jihadis disapprove of what they do, which is certainly true in some cases, but not in all. In sum, this is just EU and German taxpayer money for nothing.

“Germany introduces extremism counseling service,” DW, January 9, 2019:

A new prototype project was launched in Germany on Wednesday, aimed at counseling parents who are concerned their children may be flirting with extremism. The Turkish Community in Germany (TGD) non-profit established the service primarily for Turkish and Arabic-speaking parents, but said that German native speakers would be able to receive help as well.

The service is called “emel,” a play on the word email and a Turkish given name. Parents will be able to receive help either via email or by making an appointment for a live chat.

Funded partly by the European Union and Germany’s Ministry for Families, counseling is set to be available through at least the end of 2019, although founders hope they will receive the budget to continue the service indefinitely.

…Between 2013 and 2017, the number of people considered extreme Islamists in Germany rose from 100 to at least 1,600, and an average of around four credible tips about planned terrorist activities are received on a daily basis….
