Florida Republicans Welcome Government Fully Opening

The partial government shut-down is over for now, but negotiations are still set to continue on providing funding for the wall.

In turn, Florida Republicans are weighing in on not only the partial government shut down but also what needs to happen moving forward in order to avoid a similar situation befalling the government again in three weeks.

Congressman Matt Gaetz, a staunch supporter of President Trump, slammed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, calling on her to support the president’s call to build a wall on the southern border.

Gaetz added that the speaker “has an obligation to Congress and the American people to come to the table and negotiate with President Trump.” He then called “on Speaker Pelosi… to quickly and immediately bring a comprehensive border security package before the House for a vote. The safety of American citizens is not, and should not be, a partisan issue.”

It was decided that the government would be fully opened for three weeks as negotiations continue, and Gaetz asserted that Speaker Pelosi has this time “to develop bipartisan legislation to enhance America’s border security. If you fail, or renege on the deal, I call on President Trump to build the wall using the powers granted to the Executive Branch.”

In an interview with CNN’s “State of the Union,” Senator Rubio explained that government shutdowns are not good leverage.

Saying that in both shutdowns that he’s gone through “the aggressor in neither one was the winner.”

Senator Rubio added that he ultimately hopes “people will separate the tactics from the policy because I think the policy is reasonable and solid. We shouldn’t be trading border security for anything because it’s something we’re all for. If you’re for something and I’m for something why do we need to barter and negotiate over it? The second part of it, they don’t have to leverage the President on what to do with people on DACA or TPS because he’s already expressed a willingness to do things on that. And I think people will be surprised at how much this White House is willing to do.”
