Connecticut Supreme Court Okays Suing Gunmakers

Authoritarians will be pleased to see there is a way to disable the linchpin of liberty that is the Second Amendment. Lawsuits. All they need is a few irresponsible judges to rule in favor of tyranny. Connecticut comes through:

Gun-maker Remington can be sued over how it marketed the rifle used to kill 20 children and six educators at Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012, a divided Connecticut Supreme Court ruled Thursday.

Never mind that Adam Lanza did not even purchase the gun but stole it from his mother. The goal here is to “do something” and to destroy the Second Amendment, not to be reasonable.

Also forget the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, which explicitly defends gunmakers and therefore the Constitution against this idiocy. Liberal judges don’t interpret the law; they overrule it and replace it with their own laws.

In a 4-3 decision, justices reinstated a wrongful death lawsuit against Remington and overturned the ruling of a lower court judge, who said the entire lawsuit was prohibited by the 2005 federal law.

The lizard-like Senator and valor thief Richard Blumenthal was quick to capitalize:

Blumenthal, a Connecticut Democrat, called the ruling a victory for gun violence victims that gives moment to an effort by him and other federal legislators to repeal the 2005 law.

Repeal would mean every time a gun is used as it obviously should not be, the media will tug on heart strings, Democrats will mobilize the mob, lawyers will go a-looting, and gun manufacturers will be sued into bankruptcy.

Sure, you have a right to bear arms in liberal utopia. You just don’t have a right to make, sell, or provide ammo for arms.

For a while, rich people will still have a meaningful right of self-defense, as lawsuits drive the price of guns into the stratosphere before manufacturers are looted completely out of existence. This is in keeping with the elitism of the Democrat Party, aka the Walls for Me Not for Thee Party.

Snarls Joshua Koskoff, a lawyer for the plaintiffs,

“The families’ goal has always been to shed light on Remington’s calculated and profit-driven strategy to expand the AR-15 market…”

Gunmakers have profit-driven strategies to expand their markets? By Marx, they are not only complicit in murder, they are capitalist swine!

Speaking of profit, there will be plenty ahead for trial lawyers as the same principle is applied to other products. Car manufacturers have lots of money. Why not sue them for a few hundred $million every time someone gets killed by a drunk driver?

The riches looters will be able to squeeze out of Remington are more limited:

Remington filed for bankruptcy reorganization last year amid years of slumping sales and legal and financial pressure over the Sandy Hook school massacre.

We will see if we are any safer when people start making guns in their basements because gun manufacturers have been put out of business.
