The capital’s murder toll for 2019 has hit 60 after a 42-year-old man was stabbed to death in the early hours of this morning.

He was the fourth person to be killed in London this weekend alone, after one teenager was shot dead and another was stabbed to death on Saturday, following the fatal knifing of another man in Tower Hamlets on Friday.

This morning’s victim was attacked in Stratford, east London, just one day after a mob of 100 youths pelted police with bottles as they investigated a robbery at the nearby Westfield shopping centre.

And later this morning an 28-year-old man was shot just a mile and a half away in Leytonstone. He was taken to hospital and police said that his condition was non life-changing and stable.

A 17-year-old boy was also fighting for his life today after he was shot in Tulse Hill, south west London.

Donald Trump responded to the violence by escalating his war of words with London Mayor Sadiq Khan, calling him a ‘national disgrace’ over the violence that has plagued the capital under his governance.

Officers remain at the scene in Stratford today after a man died at about 1am in East London following a fatal stabbing

Paramedics pronounced the man in his 40s dead at 1am last night in Stratford. Police say that they believe they know his identity and have informed his next of kin.

No arrests have yet been made and detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command unit are investigating. Several roads remained closed this morning around West Ham Lane and Stratford Park were also shut.

Detective Chief Inspector Larry Smith, who is leading the investigation said: ‘While we continue to work to piece together the events that sadly led to a man losing his life, I would appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity of Whalebone Lane from around 12.30am to contact police.’

The death came as a 17-year-old boy was in a critical condition in hospital after he was shot on the Tulse Hill estate at around 9.40pm last night. A crime scene remained in place this afternoon.

Police are also appealing for witnesses to come forward following the unrelated shooting shortly after 11.30am today. Armed police, officers and London Ambulance Service attended and found the man injured. No arrests have been made.

Just hours before the killing, a teenager was stabbed in the face in Tuffnell Park, north London.

The boy, who has not yet been named has been taken to a north London hospital, was treated for non-life threatening injuries. Police arrested a 25-year-old man on suspicion of GBH.
US President brands Sadiq Khan a ‘national disgrace’ over London’s bloodbath

Donald Trump branded the Mayor of London a ‘national disgrace’ on Friday as the capital’s bloodbath continued.

His latest intervention of Sadiq Khan’s governance of London came as Cheyon Evans, Eniola Aluko and a man whose name is not yet known became the latest to be killed in London.

The US President retweeting Katie Hopkins, saying: ‘London needs a new mayor ASAP. Khan is a disaster – will only get worse!’

In a further tweet he called Mr Khan a ‘national disgrace who is destroying the city of London’.

It comes after a spat between the two politicians during Trump’s State Visit. Before he’d even touched down in the UK, he called Khan a ‘stone cold loser’.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has defended Khan following this latest exchange.

He said: ‘Absolutely awful to see Donald Trump using the tragedy of people being murdered to attack the Mayor.

‘Sadiq Khan is rightly supporting the police to do their job while Katie Hopkins spreads hateful and divisive rhetoric. They seek to divide at a time we need to come together.’

Mr Corbyn’s Labour predecessor Ed Miliband went further, saying: ‘What is it about Sadiq Khan and what he stands for that leads the President of the United States to be tweeting rubbish about him?’

An 18-year-old student and a 19-year-old man were shot and stabbed to death within 12 minutes of each other in separate attacks.

Cheyon Evans, 18, was stabbed to death in Tooting, south west London, at 4.42pm on Friday.

Witnesses told the Times that he was set upon by a gang of teenagers and was stabbed up to 17 times.

Two teenagers were due to appear before magistrates in Wimbledon this morning charged with murder.

Four other teenagers – including a 17-year-old girl – arrested as part of the investigation have been bailed.

And detectives arrested a seventh suspect, aged 20, earlier today. He remains in custody.

Just 12 minutes after Cheyon was attacked, Eniola Aluko, 19, was shot to death in Plumstead, south-east London.

Scotland Yard arrested five people in connection with the shooting, including four men aged between 16 and 18 and a 17-year-old girl.

The police have also charged Mohammed Nadir Dafallah, 18, and a 17-year-old boy with murder after the stabbing of Cheyon.

Also yesterday, a mob of 100 youths pelted police with bottles as they investigated a robbery.

Four officers were hurt when the gang leapt on police responding to a robbery alert at a bus station by Westfield shopping centre in Stratford on Saturday.

Amid chaotic scenes, passengers fled screaming in terror and one woman was injured when she fell down stairs.

Officers came under attack from the ‘hostile’ crowd armed with weapons including a large hunting knife.

Three people were arrested on suspicion of robbery and possession of an offensive weapon following the rampage, which broke out at 8pm as a crowd of revellers were leaving a nearby event.
