I originally came from Cuba as a refugee. A real one with my Mom in 1959. My father a former Senator of the previous regime had to flee the country. Family members were killed in the street in Cuba for having my last name. I came to this country scared and confused. I was 10 yrs old. It took a while for me to become a citizen but once I deed all my former memories faded and I became an American citizen. GOD bless America! It is truly the greatest country in the world! I’m Australian and now Australia Day celebrations are portrayed in the media as “ invasion day “ , referring to the arrival of Europeans ,stealing the land from the Aboriginals in 1788. The day has been totally destroyed . It used to be the best day of the year , the whole country celebrating as 1 and being proud of who we were , now it’s almost frowned upon for celebrating our national day.
