The US Government was doomed to being aligned with the ultra wealthy instead of the people by Lincoln and his Civil War over 150 years ago. Jefferson also believed each state had the right to succeed if that state felt betrayed by the Federal Government. A lot of reasons for southern state bitterness as a US naval blockade created off the US east coast to collect high tax tariffs on overseas cotton shipments to Europe where textile mills would pay more for cotton than US northern textile mills were willing to pay. Lincoln was known as heavily supporting a strong Federal Government. A belief held by Alexander Hamilton before the Civil War and known as Hamiltonianism. However Hamiltonianism was often referred to as Lincolnian after the US Civil War. Lincoln created the IRS in 1862 to fund his bloody Civil War staged against succeeded states contrary to how Thomas Jefferson would have reacted. The Fed was forever changed & empowered by the actions of Lincoln and the crony capitalism that Jefferson so feared has long ago sprouted and has very deep roots these days, It will take another Civil War to change things back within the US Government. Mr. Steele here reeled off some exact Jeffersonianism aspects when he mentioned changing this present day US Government. I heard him mention eliminating Lincoln’s IRS.
