Major victory on coal ash cleanup in N.C.!

After years of diligence by impacted citizens and communities, along with Appalachian Voices and other partners, state regulators have ordered Duke Energy to fully excavate its six remaining coal ash ponds.

A quest to protect at-risk bats

In 2013, researchers found the cave where North Carolina’s only known colony of endangered Virginia big-eared bats roost. What followed was a collaborative effort between the scientists, a land conservancy, government agencies and others to save the land from being turned into a housing development.

RECLAIM Act back in Congress

The proposal to expedite spending of $1 billion in coal-impacted communities to clean up old mining sites and repurposed them for economic development has been re-introduced in Congress, with strong hopes of passage this time.
