George H.W. Bush is only the second man to ever become President of the United States and have a son who achieved the same. The first was John Adams, who gave the world John Quincy.

But today, Bush claims an absolute first: he’s the only former president to reach the ripe old age of 94.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it, Johns.

Not too shabby.

The record was previously held by Gerald Ford, who reached 93.

Reportedly, H.W. will be spending his big day at home with family in Kennebunkport, Maine.

Bush hasn’t always had low-key celebrations; on his 85th and 90th birthday, he partied by jumping out of an airplane. With, you know, a parachute. Otherwise, in that scenario, Gerald Ford wins.

Bush kept that commitment. Despite his Parkinson’s, long-legged bush still kicked some skydiving butt:

Jean Becker, H.W.’s chief of staff, said the elder Bush won’t be doing presents this year. That nonetheless probably leaves him fairly situated, given his estimated net worth of $25 million.

Bush’s birthday comes just 8 days after being released from the hospital near his home. He was hospitalized on May 27th for low blood pressure and fatigue, during which time, according to granddaughter Jenna, he had a martini.

On June 1st, Jenna told People magazine she was jazzed about spending time with him on his upcoming big day:

“We’re going to go up and spend time with him for his birthday in a couple of weeks, so I’m really looking forward to that.”

As for his health she said he concerns himself with other things:

“I think he definitely worries more about other people than he is himself. But that’s how he’s always been, as you know.”

Perhaps one of Bush’s keys to a long life lived has been his marriage to Barbara, which lasted 73 years.
