New York Witches Schedule Event to Cast a Hex on Brett Kavanaugh and Other Rapists

Here’s a good one for ya.

In August, I covered a story about witches fighting on the side of illegal immigration. And if you didn’t catch that one, I highly recommend it — it’s a doozy, with some great GIFs. Find it here.

That story’s Coven of the Corvid isn’t the only group of spell-casters cacklin’ it up for the sake of Democratic politics (how crazy is it that illegal immigration — the breaking of some of our country’s most foundational laws — is so casually and surely attributed to the Democratic Party? Just a short time ago, President Bill Clinton spoke before Congress about the wrongs and harm of unlawful border crossing. But I digress).

In Brooklyn, a group of witches are calling upon all likeminded broom-riders to cast a collective hex — on Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh and that most evil of evils, the dadgum patriarchy.

That’s right — they’re wiccan out over KavaNAWWWWW!!!!

The incantation invitation (to an actual event) went out via that great haven of paganism, Facebook. It was posted on the official page for Catland, “Brooklyn’s premiere occult bookshop & spiritual community space”:

“Please join us for a public hex on Brett Kavanaugh, upon all rapists and the patriarchy at large which emboldens, rewards and protects them.”

I like how it’s an effort to (further) ruin a man’s life, yet it begins with the mannerly “Please join us.”

“You are cordially invited to destroy a family…”

Anyway, note: Brett Kavanaugh is a rapist. That’s the suggestion, right? Guess there’s no spell for reason.

I submit, again, a way of fighting people on this strange side of the ideological aisle: If they say Brett Kavnaugh is guilty, despite literally zero reason to believe that, then they are espousing the principle of Guilty if Charged. Therefore, one need only accuse them of sexual misconduct, at which point they become part of the problem. Presto, change-o, away with them!

Catland explains its embrace of justice:

“We are embracing witchcraft’s true roots as the magik of the poor, the downtrodden and disenfranchised and it’s [sic] history as often the only weapon, the only means of exacting justice available to those of us who have been wronged by men just like him.”

How can it be justice without evidence? And how do they know he “wronged” anyone?

Ah, reason schmeason. Break out the eye of newt (gingrich)!

And if you’re angrier at somebody else than you are at Brett, that’s fine, too. Bring it!–

“He will be the focal point, but by no means the only target, so bring your rage and and all of the axes you’ve got to grind (yes — that’s two usages of the word “and;” guess there’s no spell for auto-correct).”

Catland also wants to get in on some validation voodoo:

“There will also be a second ritual afterward – ‘The Rites of the Scorned One’ which seeks to validate, affirm, uphold and support those of us who have been wronged and who refuse to be silent any longer.”

But what if Brett’s one who’s been wronged? Is that the spell version of a double negative? If so, they still won’t not curse him.

If you were trying to decide whether the hex is worth your time, travel, and money (tickets cost $10), consider this:

“50% of the event proceeds will be donated to charity: 25% to the Ali Forney (LGBT) Center and 25% to Planned Parenthood. Please note that no one will be turned away for lack of funds.”

I’m not sure how aborting babies fights the patriarchy, but I suppose that’s twice the curse for the price of one.
