Hodeidah residents call for peace after UN ceasefire agreement

Hodeidah residents expressed their hopes on Friday for peace in Yemen and called on all parties to withdraw from the city, after the Saudi-backed Yemeni government and Houthi forces agreed to a ceasefire for the port city at talks brokered by the United Nations the day before. “The people are fully tired. We hope that all parties – and not one side only – will withdraw completely from Hodeidah, and to start applying proper solutions for the situation, and participation from the government side is required now,” one local, Ali Samir, said. “By stopping the war on Hodeidah we wish for the situation of the country to be repaired. The city has been brutally destroyed, we did not expect this huge destruction caused by the Saudi-American coalition forces,” added another resident, Mohammed Shawy. The truce between the Saudi-backed Yemeni government and Houthi forces will see all forces withdraw from Hodeidah in the coming days. They will be replaced by so-called ‘local security forces.’
