FBI’s Declassification of Dossier Summary Comey Used to Brief Trump Shows Comey Lied About Most Vital Fact of All

In response to a Freedom of Information Act request by a Politico reporter and the James Madison Project, the FBI released a summary of the Steel dossier used by James Comey to brief Trump about the Steele Dossier on January 6, 2017. News of this briefing was intentionally leaked to the media (likely by Obama’s Director of National Intelligence James Clapper) which gave them the “green light” to publish the story four days later. The document, which is over 80% redacted, can be viewed here.

It’s surprising that Politico would request and then publish this information because it indicates that Trump was not informed of the identity of those who had commissioned and paid for the dossier. The report shows only that the information was collected “on behalf of private clients.”

The most striking takeaway from the summary is that the FBI Director met with the incoming President and knowingly omitted the most vital fact of all, that Hillary Clinton and the DNC bought and paid for this “research.” James Comey, the virtuous “victim” who answers to “a higher loyalty” and travels around the country pronouncing his judgements on Donald Trump, lied about the most consequential political document of Trump’s presidency. Had Comey been truthful with the President, it would have changed the entire course of the Trump/Russia collusion investigation and saved the country from the turmoil and division it has caused.

Furthermore, if anything, the document proves it was the “private clients,” the Clinton campaign and the DNC, who colluded with Russia to influence the election. By laundering money through the law firm of Perkins, Coie (the campaign’s general counsel, Mark Elias, is a partner), they hired Fusion GPS, who hired Christopher Steele (whom the document refers to as “the source”) to create the Trump dossier. The FBI document states “The source maintains and collects information from a layered network of identified and unidentified subsources, some of which has been corroborated in the past.” Due to Steele’s past work as a spy, he could not travel to Russia himself and had to rely on subsources. Thus, one can build a credible case that it was Clinton, not Trump, who should be under investigation.

Politico reports Trump was not given a copy of this document, but only that Comey had “used it as a reference” during the meeting. Comey maintains that “U.S. intelligence officials feared Russia might try to use as blackmail against Trump.”

The unredacted portion of the summary reads as follows:

An FBI source [redacted] volunteered highly politically sensitive information [redacted] on Russian influence efforts aimed at the US presidential election. [redacted] [redacted]

The source is an executive of a private business intelligence firm and a former employee of a friendly intelligence service who has been compensated for previous reporting over the past three years. The source maintains and collects information from a layered network of identified and unidentified subsources, some of which has been corroborated in the past. The source collected this information on behalf of private clients and was not compensated for it by the FBI.

The source’s reporting appears to have been acquired by multiple Western press organizations starting in October.

The rest of the document is entirely redacted.

The FBI said they could not release the full content of the report for several reasons. It was related to an ongoing investigation, it had originated with a confidential source  and parts describe confidential investigative techniques or procedures.
