Alec Baldwin: Trump is God’s Punishment for Slavery (PLUS: What’s YOUR Idea of Comedy?)

Alec Baldwin hates Donald Trump.

Hates.

As comedian Norm MacDonald has pointed out, Baldwin’s loathing for Trump is so evident in his portrayal of the President on SNL, it makes it less comedy and more Disdain Showcase.

Comedy is joyful; light. Alec’s vicious dislike of The Donald is about as feathery as an anvil.

And the load ain’t lightenin’ any time soon.

On Twitter Sunday, the star of 30Rock made an outrageous claim, the likes of which no one attempting to hilariously lampoon a character should think of their subject:

“Trump is a curse, brought down on us as punishment 4 our sins. The slaughter of Native Americans, slavery, Japanese internment, Vietnam. Every hateful, misogynistic, racist notion, intertwined w our better nature, Trump embodies those. He is us. Now we can face it + exorcise it.”

That’s quite the mouthful.

He then let us all know what we have to do, once the cancer of Trump is removed from the body politic:

“Remember that once Trump is gone, by whatever means, + is replaced by a competent/duly elected successor, it will be necessary 4 all in this country 2 offer their support 2 that man/woman. Regardless of party. The period of healing for us will be long + will require our best.”

“Whatever means”?

The Left is interesting: So many seem to believe only they exist — Obama was wonderful, and Trump is divisive. To the whole country. A large contingent of those across the aisle refuse to acknowledge that anything to the Left ostracizes the Right, as well as vice versa.

In truth, politics, in and of itself, is divisive. Any policy in the middle leaves both sides dissatisfied, and any to the side leaves half of America perturbed.

Yet, according to Alec Baldwin and many others, the gauge of national opinion and the metric of left-wing contentment are one in the same.

And currently, “America” hates its president. So much so, that he must surely be our divine punishment for the shameful sins of a nation.

Unsurprisingly, some of Baldwin’s followers agreed. One user called upon the country to “wisely” understand that it stinks:

To be fair, Alec’s tweet came shortly after President Trump tweeted about
an SNL It’s a Wonderful Life spoof which proposed a world without Trump’s presidency:

“A REAL scandal is the one sided coverage, hour by hour, of networks like NBC & Democrat spin machines like Saturday Night Live. It is all nothing less than unfair news coverage and Dem commercials. Should be tested in courts, can’t be legal? Only defame & belittle! Collusion?”

I sure do miss the days when comedy just meant “material that is funny.”

No fights; no politics. Just silliness.

What’s your example of pure comedy? I’ll give two: Monty Python’s Parrot sketch, and Don Knott’s dentist scene in The Shakiest Gun in the West.
