France: Metal fencing protects Paris restaurant amid Champs Elysees lockdown
French authorities prohibited protests from taking place on the famous Champs Elysees in Paris, Saturday. The military was also put on stand-by while the Le Fouquet’s restaurant was protected by metal fencing after it was set alight last week during protests.
France: Clashes, tear gas mark ‘Yellow Vests’ demo in Lyon
Around a thousand people took part in a ‘Yellow Vests’ demonstration in Lyon on Saturday, with reports of at least three injured and five detained. Footage shows police using tear gas and clashing with protesters in the city’s Rue de la Republique. At least three protesters were reportedly injured and five people were detained, according to first information provided by authorities.
France: Arrests as Yellow Vests protest in Nice despite ban
The latest round of Yellow Vests protests was marked by arrests in Nice on Saturday, due to the concentration of demonstrators in an area where local authorities had earlier banned protests. The city is among a number in France where protests have been banned by local governments following last Saturday’s violence on the Champs-Elysses in Paris, where stores were vandalised and burned. Part of the city centre was closed to traffic due to the arrival of Chinese President Xi Jinping this weekend.
