Former BBC Reporter on Sri Lanka Bombings: ‘Don’t Send Your Prayers’ To Christians

British journalist and reality TV star Andy West offered up a rather unusual response to the Easter Sunday bombings which left nearly 300 people dead and injured more than 400 in Sri Lanka.

He sent out the following tweet:

There is no excuse for terror attacks against innocent people but as a journalist I saw Western Christian missionaries unscrupulpusly converting Buddhist orphans for food and shelter after the Asian tsunami. Don’t send your prayers. #SriLankaBlasts

What a stupid, callous statement to make following one of the largest terrorist attacks on Christians in recent memory. @AndyWestTV recalls seeing Christian missionaries offering food and shelter to victims of the devastating tsunami fifteen years ago, and in his mind, they were trying to convert the children to Christianity, therefore, we shouldn’t provide aid and comfort to those targeted by terrorists.

After receiving several critical replies to his cruel tweet, West doubled down. He said, “I watched orphaned children who watched their parents drown being asked: “would you like to live with us? Do you believe in God?” If you’d seen the children’s faces you wouldn’t tell me to stop you’d ask the cult Christians to stop.”

To an American human rights activist who had expressed his disapproval, West tweeted, “Hello Scott. Are you openly gay? If so, I can’t understand why you would support Trump/Christian anti-gay/trans hatred. If you’re not openly gay then I hope you find a way to come to love yourself for who you are. You have the chance to be a courageous, beautiful man. Take it.”

Another response from West: “Prayers are the cause of the problem not the solution. Prayers are scientifically proven to have no effect and religious belief of all kinds inspires killing.”

By far, the best reply to West’s offensive tweet was, “Shhhhh! Only one religion can ever be criticized by the woke and that’s Christianity.”

It seems to me that the Sri Lankan bombings which targeted Christians haven’t received quite the same level of media coverage as did the Christchurch, New Zealand mosque shootings which occurred one month ago.

Where is the outrage and the outpouring of love and support for this tragedy?

Quillette editor Andy Ngo, based in Portland, Oregon, made a similar observation. Upon hearing of the Christchurch attack which took the lives of 50 Muslims, Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler sent out a loving message.

Yet, the Mayor has been silent in the 24 hours which have passed since the blasts which killed 290 (mostly) Christians in Sri Lanka.

To @AndyWestTV, as for “There is no excuse for terror attacks against innocent people, but”, everything that follows the but is irrelevant. There is no excuse for terror attacks against innocent people period.
