Trump Calls Time of Death on the Bernie Sanders Campaign

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) was a heavy contender for the 2020 Democratic nomination, but he’s never managed to overcome former VP Joe Biden. Once Biden officially joined the race, Sanders began to look less like a serious option, and more like just one more candidate within the crowded field.

Naturally, President Donald Trump is stirring the pot by taking the opportunity to rub it in. Taking to Twitter, Trump declared the Sanders campaign “history,” and noted just how much further ahead the Biden campaign has gotten. Not to give props to Biden, however, Trump made it clear that China would absolutely love to see Biden in the White House.

“Looks like Bernie Sanders is history. Sleepy Joe Biden is pulling ahead and think about it, I’m only here because of Sleepy Joe and the man who took him off the 1% trash heap, President O! China wants Sleepy Joe BADLY!” tweeted Trump.

Trump isn’t far off the mark. According to the latest Real Clear Politics averages, Sanders’ numbers tanked once Biden officially announced, with Biden currently sitting at 38 percent and Sanders at just below 19 percent.

In response, Sanders put up a defense for himself on Twitter, stating that Trump was scared of his campaign and should be.

The problem Sanders faces is likely the same one he faced in 2016. The powers that be within the Democratic National Committee have no intention of putting Sanders in the White House and are readily going to support the safe bet that is Biden. The question is how far the DNC is willing to go to make sure that Biden suffers no injuries along the way at the hands of other campaigns.

No matter how you swing it, Sanders isn’t going to win this nomination. The question is how much will the DNC do to protect Biden until that time, and with its previous strikes against Sanders still fresh in people’s minds, how much of the DNC opposing Sanders will be tolerated.

Then, there’s the slight probability that Sanders will run the third party if he doesn’t get the nomination. Mark my words, the call for it is coming. We’re left to wonder if Sanders will answer when he’s inevitably pushed out.
