Amy Klobuchar: John McCain Recited Names of Dictators Throughout Trump’s Inauguration

Speaking to voters in Des Moines, IA on Saturday, Democratic presidential nomination candidate Sen. Amy Klobuchar said that John McCain recited the names of dictators throughout President Trump’s inaugural address.

She told supporters, “I sat on that stage between Bernie [Sanders] and John McCain, and John McCain kept reciting to me names of dictators during that speech because he knew more than any of us what we were facing as a nation. He understood it. He knew because he knew this man more than any of us did.”

During the 2016 primaries, then-candidate Donald Trump said in reference to McCain, “I like people who weren’t captured.” It certainly wasn’t one of Trump’s finest moments. And it ignited a feud that persisted for the short remainder of McCain’s life.

McCain famously provided the decisive vote against the Obamacare repeal bill. He criticized Trump’s “approach to politics as a “half-baked, spurious nationalism cooked up by people who would rather find scapegoats than solve problems.”

According to the Huffington Post, “McCain faced criticism from Democrats for not doing more to oppose the policies and appointments of a president he frequently lambasted, but Klobuchar and other Democratic senators frequently praise him as a Republican they were able to work with during increasingly partisan times. Klobuchar regularly mentions her friendship with McCain during her stump speech.”

McCain made it known he did not want President Trump to attend his funeral. As we all know, McCain’s funeral turned into a Paul Wellstonesque political event.

The McCain family has also announced that they will be offering their support to Joe Biden in 2020.
