Turkish observation point in the vicinity of Idlib shelled by Syrian Arab Army

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has shelled a Turkish military observation post in southern Idlib, Turkey’s Ministry of National Defense claimed in an official statement on June 13. “Some 35 mortars were fired from al-Shariah region, controlled by the Syrian forces in the Idlib de-escalation zone. They targeted our observation point number 10, located on mount Zawiya,” the statement reads, according to the Anadolu Agency.

Three Turkish soldiers were injured slightly in the mortar attack, which also damaged facilities, equipment and materials inside the post. The ministry said that the Turkish government had taken “necessary initiatives” with Russia regarding the attack.

Pro-opposition activists released a video showing a massive fire at the observation post in the early hours of June 13.

While the video confirms that the post came under attack, it does not assert that the SAA was behind the shelling. The shelling coincided with a ground attack by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and its allies. The attack violated a ceasefire agreement that was announced a few hours earlier, only.

This was the fourth such attack on Turkish observation posts in northern Syria. The last three attacks targeted a post near the town of Sher al-Maghar in northwestern Hama. Ankara didn’t response to any of them.

The US Army troops and the Washington-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) arrested civilians in areas under their control in Eastern Syria as part of their moves to block implementation of a peace plan between the local population and the Damascus government, media sources said.

Hasaka

The Arabic-language al-Watan newspaper reported that the SDF had arrested the official in charge of executing the national peace plan in Syria in the city of Qamishli in Hasaka province.

The daily said the SDF is adamant to the execution of the peace plan in occupied areas in Northeastern Syria, and said that the US-led coalition and Kurdish fighters have arrested several civilians in the city of al-Shadadi in Hasaka province in heliborne operations.

The SDF also arrested head of the Syrian Agricultural Society in the city of Ra’as al-Ain in Hasaka on charges of provoking farmers to sell their products to the Syrian governmental centers.

Lattakia

Ringleader of Tahrir al-Sham al-Hay’at (the Levant Liberation Board or the Al-Nusra Front) Abu Mohammed al-Jolani has reportedly arrived in the strategic town of Kabani in Northeastern Lattakia to take command of the terrorist group in the battle against the Syrian Army over the group’s main stronghold in the region.

The Syrian Army backed by the heavy artillery and missile units attacked Tahrir al-Sham’s main military base and engaged in very fierce clashes with the terrorists in Jabal Zawikat region where Kabani is located in Northeastern Lattakia after it made advances in several axes.

Meantime, battlefield sources pointed to the collapse of defense lines of Tahrir al-Sham and Turkistani Party South of Kabani, and said the Syrian Army has made advances there.

Meantime, several battlefield sources confirmed that al-Jolani has arrived in Northern Lattakia to take charge of commanding terrorists in battle against the Syrian Army and prevent the army’s further advances.

The Syrian Army plans to seize vast areas from the towns of Jabal al-Akrad in Northern Lattakia and Sahl al-Ghab region in Northern Hama as well as Jisr al-Shoghour and also Lattakia-Aleppo Highway up to Ariha in the suburbs of Idlib after taking control of Kabani.

Southern Syria

The Syrian Army’s air defense systems responded to the Israeli Army’s fresh missile attacks on the Damascus troops’ military positions in Southern Syria early Wednesday morning.

The Israeli forces targeted the Syrian Army’s military positions in Tal al-Harreh in the Southern part of Syria at around 2am local time, the state-run SANA news agency reported.

It noted that the Syrian Army downed several Israeli missiles, and said that the Israeli Army targeted the Syrian Army’s radar systems with electronic warfare and jamming after its missile attacks.

The Arabic-language website of the Russian Sputnik news agency pointed to the Israeli missile attacks from inside the occupied territories, specially from the West of Jbal al-Sheikh on areas under the control of the Syrian Army.

It said that before this attack Israel’s spying drones flew over the occupied Jbal al-Sheikh.

Israel’s new aggression on the Syrian Army’s military positions takes place as the army is fighting with terrorist groups in Northwestern Syria.

Idlib

Russia’s Hmeimem Peace Center declared preparedness of over 80,000 civilians to get out of areas under the control of the terrorist groups in Idlib for safe areas controlled by the Syrian Army as Tahrir al-Sham al-Hay’at and other militants prevented people from getting out of those regions.

The Arabic-language service of Russia Today quoted head of the Russian Peace Center in Syria Victor Kubechichin as saying that between 40,000 to 80,000 civilians are ready to get out of Idlib region.

Kubechichin reiterated that temporary centers have been set up in Homs, Hama and Deir Ezzur provinces to pave the way for exit of civilians from that region.

Meantime, the Syrian Army has also established safe human corridors in Abu al-Dhohour in Southeastern Idlib and Souran in Northern Hama over the past month and concurrent with the Syrian Army’s military operations in Northern Hama and Southern Idlib.

Tahrir al-Sham and other terrorist groups prevent the exit of civilians from this region by blocking the roads and blackmailing them.

Also, reports said on Wednesday that Turkey has ordered the terrorist groups stationed in Northern Syria to continue fighting the Syrian army and keep their positions until the 2019 G20 Osaka summit in Japan later this month in a bid to find a pressure leverage to stop the army’s military operations.

The Arabic-language al-Watan newspaper quoted dissident sources close to the Ankara-backed terrorists in Idlib as saying that the Turkish officers deployed in regions under the supervision of Ankara in Idlib province have ordered the terrorist commanders in Northern Hama, Southern Idlib and Northeastern Lattakia to launch preemptive attacks against the army-controlled areas and prevent the Syrian army forces’ advance.

They added that Turkey insists on improvement of battlefield and military conditions of the so-called National Liberation Front, Jeish al-Izza and Tahrir al-Sham al-Hay’at terrorists in Hama, Idlib and Lattakia, noting that Ankara seeks to use the G20 summit in Osaka to meet his Russian and US counterparts and pressure them to prevent the Syrian army’s military operations.

The sources said that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan wants to return to the de-escalation zone agreement with Russia through talks (after non-commitment) to it and following Moscow’s repeated opposition to Ankara’s demands for a ceasefire in Idlib and the adjacent areas.
