VLADIMIR Putin today called an urgent meeting with defence chiefs hours after 14 sailors died in a mystery submarine blast.
The Russian leader cancelled his schedule for a meeting with his defence minister Sergei Shoigu.
It came as US Vice President Mike Pence was called back to Washington for an “undisclosed emergency”.
The announcements came at exactly the same time but it is not clear if the two are linked.
The White House and the Kremlin would not say the reason for the change of plans.
The news comes hours after the fire on board a Russian submarine left 14 dead after they were poisoned by fumes.
Earlier today 14 crew members died when the Russian navy submarine they were on caught fire while taking biometric measurements, the defence ministry said.
An investigation is underway into the incident on board the vessel, which was based out of the Northern Fleet main port of Severomorsk in Murmansk.
The deep-sea research vessel was carrying out a military survey in Russian territorial waters.
The ministry’s statement said the submersible is intended for studying the seabed, but didn’t give its name or type. Authorities haven’t given a cause for the fire, saying that an official investigation has started.
In the deadliest naval incident in post-Soviet Russia, the Kursk nuclear submarine exploded and sank on August 12, 2000, during naval manoeuvres in the Barents Sea, killing all 118 crew members.
Russian Defence Ministry reported. “On July 1, a fire broke out in Russian territorial waters on a research deep-water apparatus designed to study the bottom space and the bottom of the World Ocean in the interests of the Russian Navy.
“During the biometric measurements, 14 submariners died as a result of burning with poisoned products”
“The causes of the incident are established. The investigation is conducted by the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy.”
In the US, Air Force 2, carrying Mike Pence, 60, was said to have been turned around and returned to Washington.
“There’s been an emergency callback,” Randy Gentry, a representative from Pence’s office, told the crowd.
“The vice president was asked to return to Washington so at this time we’re going to cancel today’s event.”
A White House spokesman said: “Something came up that requires the VP to remain in DC. There is no cause for concern.”
However Alyssa Farah, Mike Pence’s spokeswoman, later denied there was ever an “emergency callback” and stated that Mr Pence never left Washington.

Fourteen Russian sailors die in fire on #nuclear powered #submarine
Fourteen sailors were killed in a fire on a top-secret Russian submarine, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Tuesday, admitting to one of the country’s worst naval disasters in a decade.
A Russian news outlet, RBC, cited an unnamed military source as saying the vessel was a nuclear-powered AS-12 deep-sea submarine known as Losharik, but there was no official confirmation.
The submarine, which is capable of serving under-water cables, was taking carrying out a survey of the sea floor in Russian territorial waters, according to the Defense Ministry. A fire broke out on the vessel, and the sailors died from smoke inhalation. The fire happened on Monday, but was not disclosed until Tuesday.
The submarine has returned to its port, the Northern Fleet Headquarters at Severmorsk, and unconfirmed Russian language reports say some five sailors from the vessel have been hospitalised.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday that Vladimir Putin, the Russian president, has cancelled a planned public appearance to meet with his defense minister, Sergei Shoigu.
The investigation into what happened on the submarine is being managed personally by Russian navy chief Nikolai Yevmenov.
Monday’s fire was compared to fate of the Russian nuclear-powered submarine Kursk. Read more

The first public statement about the fatal incident on board of a Russian deep sea research vehicle, President Vladimir Putin said that it’s a “great loss,” adding that 2 heroes of Russia and 7 high-ranking officers were killed.
“It is not an ordinary vessel, it is a research vessel,” said the president while meeting with the Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu in the wake of the tragedy.
President Putin ordered Shoigu to travel to Severomorsk, where the research vessel is currently stationed, to oversee the investigation and report to him upon return.

REPORT: AMERICAN SUBMARINE TORPEDOED AND SUNK OFF ALASKA COAST
An American submarine operating off the coast of Alaska was REPORTEDLY torpedoed and SUNK during a firefight with a Russian submarine, after the American sub allegedly intercepted the Russian sub in American waters.
The Russian submarine allegedly sustained heavy damage in the fight, with upwards of 14 crew killed, but it made it back to its base in Russia.
I have calls into the Pentagon and to my Intel Sources seeking to confirm (or deny) this information.
No word on US casualties.
Emergency meetings have been taking place at the White House this afternoon, with Vice President Pence being called back to the White House and having to cancel his scheduled trip to New Hampshire.
As Pence was being called back, word broke in Russian media that Russian President Vladimir Putin cancelled a public event he had long scheduled, and diverted immediately for a meeting with his Defense Minister.
At that meeting, both Putin and the Defense Minister SUMMONED the General Secretary of the Russian Armed Forces to the meeting.
While that was taking place, the European Union headquarters in Brussels Belgium called an Emergency meeting of the EU National Security Council and, separately, the British Government called a COBRA meeting for its government.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the country’s defense chief to travel to a northern naval base to conduct a probe after a fire on a deep-sea research submersible killed 14 crew members.
(Hal Turner Remark: A fire huh? Hmmmmm. Caused by what? A firefight with a US Submarine, perhaps?)
Putin on July 2 called the incident a “terrific loss” and told Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu to “personally hear reports” and direct the Investigative Committee to “definitely establish the causes behind this tragedy.”
Putin’s meeting with Shoigu came after the Defense Ministry said earlier in the day that 14 sailors were killed when a fire broke out on July 1 aboard a submersible carrying out research work in Russian territorial waters.

SOMETHING’S FISHY already WITH the PUBLIC STATEMENTS FROM RUSSIA.

IT APPEARS THAT AT A MINUMUM, A RUSSIAN NUCLEAR SUBMARINE TOOK A HIT WITH UP TO 13 CASUALTIES, PREDOMINANTLY WITH HEAD INJURIES WHICH WOULD MEAN IT GOT HIT. Debka File is unreliable. However, it is possible from all the details that:
1. Israel struck both a Russian and American submarine, to anger both countries, and there are indeed 13 badly wounded men on a Russian sub, with head injuries. Something did indeed happen.
Less likely:
2. The U.S. fired at Russia first, and Russia responded or Russia fired at America first, and America responded.
OR, 3. a Russian submarine hit either a U.S. sub by accident, or hit an underwater obstacle by accident.
Something definitely happened. My bets are on Israeli false flag attack.
RUSSIAN SUBMARINE UPDATE
I think something happened, and Debka may have gotten it wrong. Initially it was reported that a fire broke out on a Russian nuclear sub, but mysteriously, along with the fire some of the crew members got head injuries. Now all the reports say only smoke inhalation. So here is what I think is likely:
Something jolted the sub very hard, started a fire, some people got smoke inhalation and Putin is being quiet at this time, waiting for answers to come in.
VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: When this happened, Cloudflare was taken offline.
Why would that happen? ANSWER: To stop people from putting pieces together.
Something happened, and we are not being told. They don’t shut down Cloudflare for nothing. Now that everything is contained, Cloudflare is back up.
