The “Send Her Back” Chant at Trump’s Rally Was Wrong, but It Doesn’t Make Ilhan Omar Right

I’m not going to beat around the bush here. The “send her back “chant at Trump’s “Keep America Great” rally in North Carolina wasn’t something that should be approved of by anybody. I get the context, and I agree that if Omar hates America that much then she should leave it, but the idea that we should “send her back” isn’t a concept that should fit well with any freedom-loving American.

With that said, Omar is still the villain here, and her inability to show appreciation toward her adoptive country while showing warmth toward its enemies who attack it doesn’t exactly generate a lot of sympathy for her.

I also want to make something clear here. Trump didn’t start the “send her back” chant, though he did stand by a let it happen. Perhaps he couldn’t quite make out what they were saying and just let his crowd do their thing, though, I’m not seeing him denounce it now that he undoubtedly knows. Regardless, he was addressing the so-called “Squad” and the consistent shade they throw at America and Americans.

“Tonight I have a suggestion for the hate-filled extremists who are constantly trying to tear our country down,” Trump told the North Carolina crowd. “They never have anything good to say. That’s why I say, ‘Hey if you don’t like it, let ‘em leave, let ‘em leave.’”

This led to the chant starting up.

I disagree with the chant simply because Omar is an American citizen, and as such, this is now her country. She is an American. Supporting forcefully sending her back to Somalia, where she originally hails from, would be a bad move. In the eyes of America’s laws and traditions, Omar is no longer Somalian in the legal sense. Sending her back would be kicking an American out of her own country because we don’t like what she says, and as far as the American Constitution is concerned, she’s perfectly in her right to talk as much trash about America as she wants and still be an American citizen.

Free speech is free speech even if you don’t like it.

That said, Omar’s consistent kid gloves when it comes to terrorists groups that literally killed thousands of Americans, and her consistent antisemitism and racism would make her an absolute villain in a sane world. She gives off the impression that she actually doesn’t like America, and as such, if America is such a horrible place to Omar, then she’s free to leave at any time, and I encourage it. The United States and its people are clearly antagonists of the worst kind in her story, and if that’s the case, then she’s more than free to go be with her allies, whomever they may be.

She recently accused all Trump supporters of being racist after not abandoning Trump en masse for a tweet that wasn’t racist if any logic is applied to it.

She refused to condemn Al Qaeda, the terrorist organization that carried out the 9/11 attacks that killed 3,000 Americans. In fact, in the past, she attempted to downplay the 9/11 attacks by saying “some people did something” during a speech at a Hamas supporting CAIR function. She also wants our military to be spoken of with the same terroristic overtones that we use when talk about Al Qaeda.

The fascinating thing is that this Somalian immigrant fled to the United States to escape the kind of culture that creates terrorism and despotic radicalism. She then turns around and acts like the United States is the very thing that she fled. If that’s the case, then the logical question to ask her is why she’s even here. Of all the places in the world to run to, the U.S. was the place where asylum was sought. It was sought because the United States is a safe place with civilized laws and and a deeper acceptance of people with various beliefs, skin tones, and traditions.

If this is not your view, and you think that the United States is an evil place filled with bigotry and hate, then you’re free to leave at any time.

To make sure I’m being properly understood, I’m not advocating for Omar to be kicked out of the country. I am saying, however, that if she hates it so much then she should voluntarily leave it.

I say this knowing she won’t, because deep down she truly knows that this country is the greatest country on the planet. Most leftists, even those on the hard-left, are completely aware of that fact in their heart of hearts. Experiencing how other countries do things would be a bucket of cold water on their psyche. Omar doesn’t have that excuse, however. She escaped horror and found asylum in the proverbial shining city on the hill. She’s not going to give that up and go back to a place she knows full well could be accurately described as “hellish.”

Trump is right about Omar, and Omar is wrong about America. The chant was definitely something that shouldn’t have happened, but “shouldn’t have happened” could easily describe a lot of Omar’s actions and words.
