Bomb Threat Forces Evacuation of Metropolitan Detention Center In Brooklyn, New York

A bomb threat at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn forced the evacuation of visitors and lawyers on Monday morning, a high-ranking police source said.

The threat came in around 10:30 a.m. — prompting authorities to scour the Sunset Park lockup, though police don’t believe it’s credible, the source said.

The incident follows a weekend of protests at the detention center, where inmates complained of having no heat in their cells for days after a fire on Jan. 27 left a large portion of the facility without electricity.

Correction, the power was never fully out, and prisoners never lost heat in their cells. The never went without a hot meal. Guards started this because they felt the prisoners were getting better treatment than them because heat to main areas and offices was shut off temporarily.
